I pulled into a McDonald's this morning and saw a charging station (electricity pump) for electric cars right next to the handicap only spot. What got me looking further was the sign that said something to the effect that if you needed a charge you had a preference for that parking spot.
Sorry that I didn't get a pic of the sign.

First off I get the idea of charging stations as coming a need everywhere and the "fuel hose" will only reach so far.

Where my mind goes is to exactly what happens (or could happen) if a gas powered car actually parked in that space.--Against the sign saying that it was for electric car charging only?-(or the like).
I already get how "handicap" spaces work (and am about to apply for a tag myself I cause am an old jack *** and my back hurts).

This got me thinking about the big picture of charging electric cars. I have seen them at rest stops on the freeways and expect them to eventually compete with gas stops.

For now, I am inclined to park my gas powered vehicle right in front of a charge station just to push the point of getting their **** together to get it done and get it done right.

Fill your car at a "filling station" or at home.----Don't block more parking spots at every business that already is bent over to provide spots for the handicapped.

BTW when I go to my local Home Depot I see 30+ parking spots for the card carriers that are empty and the rest of the lot is full.

Growing up in MN we always plugged in our cars at night in the winter. ..
Rig up a cord to lay out like you have your muscle car plugged in! Screw em....

Isn't he idea to charge the car while your in the place of business buying something from them?

I do wonder how this plays out. Who pays for the amount of energy that cars use? Nothing is free and energy is what it is.
It all comes from where all energy comes from. Various places at various costs. Do the car charging stations require a credit card?

What I have become used to is the bottomless pit of money that tax payers earn to make their way ends up funding stuff like this as a boost to make it feel affordable to change our nasty habits.

If I could get 20gal. of gas worth of energy for shopping at a store and get what I needed from that store. I would indeed come back to that store. Screw the discount for having a Safeway card. :)

It is indeed hard to escape the types that drive Volvos (for example).
I have also heard ref. to BMW drivers for years. (not in a good way).
We do tend to group people and not without good reason.

I've kind of followed this Tesla thing, it's quite the evolution. Those charging stations are funded by the Tesla, Nissan, etc manufacturers. Tesla has complete planning of your trip onboard and maps out all the charging stations and if they're the speed chargers or not.

From what I read it would cost <$500 per year to charge a Tesla for 12k miles per year off peak or overnight charging on 240V. Equivalent gas at 12k miles per year at $2.50/gal and mid 20'sMPG would be just under $2k in fuel costs.

That charging station in the parking lot with a car charging for an hour might cost <$2 to whoever is paying the bill.

But who is paying the road use tax state and federal? These dam things still have tires and for now none of them fly. They use to roadway just like the rest of us who is paying the tax?

If you own an elc car you must be a handicap! I love there ,were saving the earth unlike you in your gas hog. I tell them to look up how bad those battery packs are for earth and how horrible there elc cars really are! We should go back to steam cars that was the best design for transportation.there's an all org case steam car local here that comes out here and there . But these elc cars are a joke!

Apparently there is a place somewhere in Canada, where the raw materials are mined, (Nickel) and the area is completely desolate from the mining process now.....trees will never grow in that area again. I'm sure someone will fill in the blanks - and the location.
And they say gasoline is bad for the environment.

Yep, one of the big ones...the Sudbury Nickel Mine. Nothing green around that place. Except that all the mining is underground...

I read a few years ago about that one, and the pictures I saw were a lot more barren than that picture. Maybe they are plastic trees? :D
