I agree that computers have enabled performance and reliability rates to shoot WAY up.
There is no way any car could get 20 mpg, 707 HP and pass emission standards without computers.
The same type of guys that engineered that also made other stuff complicated that did not have to be that way.
I am deeply grateful that this truck has lasted as long as it has. Aside from some wear here and there, it drives like new. I've never seen a 70s era truck last this long.
Am I lucky? I ran my 1984 Chevy to around 440,000 miles before I sold it.

Yeah, I swapped engines around 370,000 miles but keep in mind, that was a carbureted truck with a real simple computer. It had none of the GPS Navigation stuff of today, no drive by wire, heated seats, adaptive cruise control or anything too fancy.
 
I went through a similar brewhaha with my '04 Ram after the DBW throttle stuck FULL OPEN getting on the freeway....thank goodness there was room for me to react and shut down safely.
As I accelerated through the on-ramp the thing just kept going. Caught me by surprise for sure but I went key off ('04 still used a key!) and shifted to neutral and coasted to the side after unexpectedly speeding to over 90 mph.
Changed the sensor, and yeah I also discovered a computer reset was required to calibrate the system to the new sensor.
THAT is some weird ****! I've had throttles stick in cable equipped cars but the voodoo of drive by wire systems doing this is not comforting.
 
A coworker had his '90s something Ford pickup quit on him and he had to have it towed home. I stopped by his house to help him figure it out. After trying everything in the book it ended up being the battery in his key fob that went dead. Now just imagine losing power because of a key fob battery. It's a wonder he didn't lose control of his truck. Who thinks of these kind of things anyhow?
 
Just updating that the auto stall feature has re-enabled itself yet again in the Maverick. Effing annoying, I don't want to connect the Cobb tuner once a week to turn that function off.
