In my younger years I read fairly extensively about the Civil War. The notion that it only was about slavery is silly. Slavery was an element but to equate the South only with slavery is foolish. They were proud independent people. I'm a lifelong Yankee and I still admire their heritage. It is frightening to think this country would desire to blot out real history.

Robert E Lee was without doubt the finest officer ever to command an army! Period.
Not Napolean nor Rommel nor Hannibal nor Patton nor MacArthur can even hold a candle to this man.
He time and again whipped an Army twice his size and better supplied. Sometimes the opposing Army even had his plans (Antiedam).
His officers and men would follow him to the gates of hell if he led them there.

This one man is bar none my favorite human ever. And his legacy means more to me than the life of every snowflake on the damn planet!

Lee was the epitome of a true gentleman. He gave up the opportunity to be Commander of the Union forces for his heart was in Virgina. After the war he was left penniless as the Yankees took Arlington
And made it a national cemetery, without compensation. He is and always will be the greatest American hero.
