What is it with people. Why can't somebody man up and call if they're interested in what you're selling.

What's all this text crap. Last time I checked, we weren't a bunch of teenage girls.

I just listed an engine and trans on CL and specifically stating to call because I won't respond to texts. Why? All I get are scammers.

I guess I'm just old-school and not afraid to talk to someone.

I’ll send a polite email at times because I’m usually busy at work and I just want the VIN so I can check it out and not get into an unending conversation when I just want to check the title first.

Always leave my phone number though, so they can call to verify I’m legit.

CL is the first problem....a lot of people that waste others time....

When I buy stuff the calls turn into 2 hour long calls as the owner has to tell you his life story! If I have time I'll call but I like to get the needed info before I call that way I don't waist my time with the story

Texting leaves important things in writing.
If somebody texts me important info it means I don't need to write it down and lose it.
I don't have time to talk sometimes,
Like when I'm driving, etc.
So, I text!

(tee-hee-hee)

Last time I texted while driving I spilled my beer.

To me, they can text me pertinent info after the conversation.

As far as spilling your beer...may I suggest a cupholder.

I am a busy guy with a crazy schedule that doesn't always allow me to talk on the phone. Texting is better than checking voicemails constantly because i leave my phone in a safe place when busy. I prefer texting until there is a time when i can sit still and have a conversation.
Like Beekool says its a good way to have info on "paper" also. When making a deal a guy really can't try changing terms when things are "written" down.

You do bring a good point. Perhaps I'm prohibiting a potential sale by not texting

I was interested in a car in California and the guy only wanted calls. So I called. He was out in the sticks and his cell reception was terrible. Plus he had the heaviest accent and I could only understand 1 out of 3 words. Sometimes writing is just better. ( There was actually a while at work where the saying was " don't say it, write it" !!

time shifting.

the biggest advantage of text and email (which I vastly prefer*) is that each party can converse at their leisure. If I work 2nd or 3rd shift, we can still both converse when we are awake.

#2 benefit is stated above- written record.

*if email, I can create a separate account to use and potentially delete. That way everyone I make contact with via craigslist doesn't have my phone number.

what's that ?

millennial thumb jockey's
seemingly afraid to have a voice conversation
let alone any 1st hand 1 on 1 personal contact...

All good points. I've watched these judge shows on tv and they use their text history to prove their cases all the time.

As far as just to have a conversation, pick up the damn phone!
