How do you deal with coins?

We get coins when we break a dollar. --It's a mix of coins that is always less than a buck.
I never like digging for a coin or two when spending paper money so I eventually end up with a pile of those things at home.
Some years back I took $1700 worth to my bank to turn it back into paper. It was a chore.
The bank has bags for this purpose and a declared amount/value is asked for. They then send it off to be counted and will let you know what happens.
Here I am again with a heavy pile of this stuff. (maybe a 100lbs.?) As an exercise to satisfy my curiosity I counted and weighed six pounds of the avg.mix we get in change. What I came up with is $14.40 per pound and will use this as a way to estimate value for my trip to the bank.

I think I'm done with coins and may just swipe a card for everything from now on. For an old fart like me changing an old habit is tough. But in this case, dealing with "change" is a chore.

Well for us,we piggy bank them and once a year give it to the local Elks Lodge.Then it is counted,wrapped and They in turn donate to the local Safe Haven for abused mothers/children of spousal abuse.Food,clothes, and a place to stay.

I always have a pocket full of change and I like to mess with the kids when I hand them the money . . . if the total is, let's say . . . $6.61 . . .
I'll give them a $10, $1, and $0.11 . . . and they'll say you gave me too much . . . LMAO . . .

The simple thing is that I get $5.00 bill back and 2 - quarters ( assuming they don't count out 5 dimes instead . . . sheesh )

I keep the quarters in my truck for tolls. The other change goes into plastic bottles and I keep a running total (yes I am ****). Have just over $400 now. Will eventually cash it in and use it as "play" money.

I like darter6's idea too.
Used to get newspapers and they piled up. A kid came to the door collecting newspapers for a drive of some sort. I said kid you came to the right place. I filled his dad's pickup on that one visit.

I do that all the time. It's a good lesson for them but sometimes so sad at how long it takes for it to make cents to them. Usually, I will ask them to just ring up the money I am giving them and the machine will tell us both what the change is.

I worked with an x bank employee he would have skimmed a hundred off that $1,700. My grocery store has a change to dollars machine, they are not to be trusted 100%.

I usually keep close to a dollar in change and always keep 4 pennies along for the ride. I just went to Florida and not having an orange Sun Pass, I went to a bank and got a roll of Qtrs. Florida must be the only state that doesn't have a bank on every block.

If you have kids or grand kids, give them a gallon bucket of change each. You get rid of the change with no hassle and the kids are happy!

I throw all my change into a jar/bucket. I then have to count and roll it before the bank will accept it. I do that once a year and it usually pays for my trip to the Northstar nationals in Brainerd every year.

Anytime I come home with jingles in my pocket they go into a brass spittoon on my dresser. Once a year we take them to the bank and feed the coin sorting machine. They charge 3% for the service but I don't have to fool with rolling them...
