Like others in here, I'm going nuts trying to figure out what system to put in the 440 charger.
I have headers, so looks like I piece meal it or go with TTI or Flowmaster, but Flowmaster only offers 1- 2 1/2" kit.
Has anyone used this whole system?

Description
Header-back System 409S - Dual Rear Exit - American Thunder® -Moderate/Aggressive

I was wondering if the inside was to noisy. I am going to put the Eastwood Dynomat thruout the whole interior, so that will make it more than acceptable.
Yup, going to be one of those things, just not going to be sure about until it is installed.

I have Hooker Competition headers with a Flowmaster exhaust system. I also put Dynamat throughout the entire cabin. Honestly when I’m driving around the city it seems okay - but on the freeway when I’m droning on at a steady 3000 rpm it’s a bit loud. Too loud for my taste. I’m running a stroked 440 Six Pack. Had I known it was going to be that loud I would have tried a different system. Of course I’m also driving with the windows open because I don’t have ac and it gets a little toasty in the summer. In the winter it’s not as bad with the windows rolled up. With them down you’re also getting then other freeway traffic. My 2 cents.

I've used Flowmasters on everything since the late 70's
I use to race with, or talk & see the guy who invented them...
IIRC he was from Santa Rosa Ca. {they sold out to Holley Corp. IIRC}
They were the only game in town, for race/chambered exhaust back then...

I find something that works I stick with it...

On my 68 RR I have the 3" Delta Flow 50 American Thunder Muscle-car
Mandrel Bent tubing with an H-pipe kit
{where that H or X pipe is located can effect drone too}
I like mine a bit loud/aggressive...

Just make sure don't go too big of tubing for you combo
HP needs or you will hear a resonance/drone,
like you would with almost "any chambered exhaust system"
if the tubing size it too big for your needs...

I like the scavenging effects of the Flowmaster system...

My last car was almost the same, but with more HP & more camshaft
a 2" to 4-2-1 to 3" Scavenging collectors from Flowmaster too...
Seemed to mellow out the tones some...
They are heavy buggers thou...

You can add silencers in or near the rear of the end of tailpipes too,
much like the org. Hemi cars had/did...
I know a few people that have done that & they liked it...
None of them make the HP my car has either...

Mine don't drone really, but it has a deep aggressive sound,
mostly behind the car {now my fuel-pump drives me crazy}
I drive with my windows open, I don't have a/c either...
But I have the tailpipes out all the way to the rear too
I just 45* angled cut the tips
they are 12 years old still look/sound like new too...

good luck

I used a Pypes all stainless pipe system. I looked for a set of used TTI headers for my 472 Hemi. I could not bring myself to pay the price for new TTI anything way too expensive. If i where to do it again I would buy flow master. Why?? The fit is great every time I get flow master and their stainless kits are always 1/2 the price of BORLA which i put on my hemi challenger 2014. I would look fo r4 a used set of tti headers. I found the Hemi variety on ebay for 375.00. It is out their.

I recall reading an article saying flowmaster mufflers are very restrictive, Anyone read that?

I did a flow test using his flow-bench, it was a total PITA
we did it with my old head porter Mark Lowe {RIP}
{the heads only flowed 335cfm 0.600" gross lift/Eddy RPM 84cc just mildly ported,
better hardware, appr. valve springs for my combo, cleaned up pockets, cam was more
}
we did the flow test, complete with the header attached
& thru one side of the 3" exhaust on my 68 RR street car
that ran 9.77 @ 135 N/A & best of 8.58 @ 156 300-shot of N20
{Flowmaster mandrel tubing & Delta 50 chambered mufflers}
blocked off the h-pipe hole, there was no noticeable drop in air flow
with the exhaust attached, it actually created a scavenging effect
actually pulling/scavenging some exhaust out in the lower lift ranges,
with little to no effect/restrictions when at full lift 0.700"+ gross valve lift...
We wanted to know how much HP the exhaust system kills, capped up
it is heavy, that weight contributed to ET loss far more than any
flow or restrictions...

I know for a fact what they did, I don't always trust the mag articles,
especially when they are paid for by a competitor...

I'm not sure what article either,
maybe with certain combos they do or will,
they didn't effect mine, as you can see the #'s...

I have flowmasters and would never do it again. They sound great from what exits the pipes but the drone is insane. I am going back to my Borla's as they sound just as good without the drone issues. I used to go for long drives after stressful days to relax by listening to the purr of the motor. Not anymore. Sixty miles is as far as I can make it before I have to put in ear plugs.

Remember Flowmaster has like 20 something different styles
of mufflers now too...
a bunch of different sizes & pipes...

I guess it could have restrictions or a drone in some of them,
just not the ones I used...

I don't know much about them since the sell out...

I think we have a member here who went to work for them,
sometime after that buy out...
I don't remember the guys name...

I have run Flowmaster (40-series I believe), Hush Thrush, off-the-shelf turbo muffler, Cherry Bombs, straight pipes (no muffer) and now "stock style" Walkers. "Too Loud" is a matter of preference. I always liked my cars loud enough to be heard 2-3 blocks away while just cruising (and a 1/2 mile away with my foot on the gas). After a hearing test + MANY neighbor complaints (with Hush Thrush turbos last time & pigtail exhaust exiting in front of the tires), I went to a full exhaust with Walkers. It's still pretty darn loud, but I can hear the radio now if I turn it up most of the way.

Dynamax mufflers aren't bad, but I prefer stock exhaust. All three of my cars came with 3" pipes with Blowmasters and I ripped them all out and went with stock exhaust from Accurate. They have a nice mellow rumble at idle and low speeds.

Wow, Great advise from everyone. The 40 series form flowmaster seem to be to loud and the 50's might work, I have headers form Summit, ( their brand, ceramic coated)
They are 1" 7/8" with 3" collectors. I do not have that big horse power with my engine ( Stealth heads, Flattop pistons, Alum intake, Roller rockers and a Hughes cam) so we decided on a 2 1/2" exhaust system, The TTI's sound like they might be a good fit, they use Dynomax super turbos, but most feel they are too quite and went with the Ultra Flows, so I might get the pipes and by the mufflers separate, or I might look at the Pypes system........tick tock, tick tock, decisions, decisions.....

Here’s my old 440 with hooker super comp 1 7/8 headers and flowmaster 40’s dumped at the axle.

Ugh, I cant stand Flowmasters! Once I heard the Dynomax Ultraflows I ordered them up and tossed the Flowmasters immediately!

I prefer the slight crackle/pop that the Ultraflows provide over the classic Flowmaster muscle car sound. It's nice cruising down the freeway and actually be able to talk to my passengers too!

Quick video of my car with the fresh mufflers. It's echo'y because its a 1 car garage. LOVE THE SOUND!

Sounds good, Only reason I had the flowmastera they came with the car. New set up runs an 18” extension off the header and that’s it

Any pictures and video?

View attachment 556482 I also have run Flowmasters for several decades and I like the sound. The "but" is power. I had my wagon dyno tuned at Steve Morris' shop several years ago and jetting and timing picked up 30 horse power. We then ran a final pull with the cutouts open and picked up 20 more horse power. I thought I had as good a system as possible-Doug's 2" headers, 3" pipes with all mandrel bends, X pipe, and turn downs at the axle-but the Delta 44s were a restriction I found disappointing.
New project car will have Classic Chambered Exhaust mufflers. Mike
