Curious...why is everyone so hung up on matching numbers and scared to death of body filler?
I have a 67 Charger and sure it has some fill in the quarter panels, maybe more seam sealer than I would have used in some spots and its not a numbers matching car but it sure does make me smile when Im driving it! Shes a 10 outta 10 at speed or when Im at the gas station talking to the guy at the pump next to me about the car and a 8 outta 10 when parked.

There was a fellow Mopar man looking over my car in the shop and pointed out the fill, the paint ain't perfect either and the 4 speed was originally an automatic and asked me why I would want such a car, why would you buy a car with fill?...a non OE equipped not 100% perfect car as he put it. My answer...money, time, family, mortgage and other priorities dictate my life over my Charger.
I am only here for a short time and as far as I know this is my only go around this big world so I have no issue while jamming gears that my car should have a 727 and has fill in her. I would rather have 5 mopars that run and drive that aren't 100% over 1 that is museum quality any day.

But I am curious on your guys opinion. BTW the guy who was critiquing my car has some VERY pretty Mopars of his own.

I agree with you. It’s so much more fun to drive and bang gears than to let it sit in the garage being so afraid to touch it!

There are basically two different camps. The drivers and the trailer queens. Sounds like you met a guy from the trailer queen camp.

My 69 Charger is far from perfect, but I love it. I'll fix things as I go but I'm still going to drive it like its 1989.

I can totally relate. I sold my rotisserie restored 70 RR last year because I didn't want to drive it so I could keep it pristine. I bought a less than perfect but beautiful 70 Satellite convertible at 2/3 the price, pocketed a nice chunk of change, and I'm not worried about driving it anywhere.

As far as what others think........

That is how I ended up with my Charger NJRR.
I was about 80% finished a rotisserie restoration on a 73 Scamp that I could not put a bolt in until it was cleaned, painted, clear coated then touched up after it was on the car and a buddy of mine asks 'so are gonna be taking the kids in this thing, with a big smile on his face lol (they were 6 & 4 at the time) or what if you get caught in a downpour?'
That got me thinking and in the end decided to sell it for something that if one of the kids scratched the paint or spilt his bag of chips in the car I could roll with lol...somewhat lol

you met Richard Cranium?

I've gotten away from owning trailer queens. My automatic 68 Charger is a very clean car, but not so clean that I don't want to drive it. I bought that car already painted. My 4-speed 68 Charger has mostly original paint and it has its share of dings and scratches and it's a good 10 footer. But that car is more fun to drive.

I agree im building my car to enjoy not be trailered or drove around the block once a month only number matching things on my car is the vin and title lol

I think it is the to each is own idea here.....

What you may like another may not but the difference is to be respectful to each other.....

The guy you ran into is a jerk and obviously has no filter.......

Totally agree, to each his own and respect. There are many different motives. Some people just want to drive a classic Mopar, some just like restoring old cars, some do it as a business. Like most of the members on the forum, we are in awe of Justin's restoration of his father's X. Not just his attention to detail and level of quality, but also the ideal behind it.

must have been some other dick head

There's two kinds of men in the world.

One kind of man can only have a wife/girlfriend that is magazine cover quality at all times either in public or private. Her hair, face, and make-up must be perfectly maintained as well as her physical body. Anything less just will not do. Trouble is.....most of the time, she won't let you get close enough to her to provide you with any kind of satisfaction at all......but you can look at her while she's all primped and pretty.

Then there's the kind of man who likes his wife/girlfriend who's just a little on the imperfect side. She's not afraid to bait a fish hook or get her fingernails dirty in the garden. She's not worried that her hair will get all messed up riding beside you in your truck. And she'll let you get real close to her.....just so you can keep her warm and "entertained"....:D

Pretty at all times is all good and such.......but I know what kind of man I am.....:D

We have quite a few muscle cars, too many right now. We made a yellow '81 Camaro into a Bumble Bee clone for my daughter. I think we spent about $1,200. It gets so many looks and comments. You remember the original Bumble Bee was a POS. We are now getting the '71 Chevelle wagon ready for sale this spring. It gets a ton of comments.

The Charger and the Challenger not so much. If I have money I just buy another car, and don't finish the one I have.

I very much appreciate one of our cars that is as near perfect as it can be and as clean underneath as it is on top. However, I own my car because I want to enjoy it. So although I appreciate perfection, for me I am not concerned that the bottom of my car doesn't have a paint job on it. I don't want rust mind you but the "perfect car" has so much money into it that I would be afraid to drive it and that's not an option for me. As moparnation said to each his own but respect the other person regardless. Then there's this, some people just don't have the spare money it takes to do a rotisserie resto but they love the cars and do what they can. I've had 60s and 70s Mopars when you couldn't give them away and now you have to mortgage the farm to buy some of them. Some people buy them as an investment, I'm in it because I love the cars. Enjoy yours and don't worry about the critics!

Olddog67 in my opinion, you have your priorities in the correct order. And I agree with what 71dodgechargerrt said, who cares what other people think. My parents taught me to always think on your own, and don't go along with the crowd. A couple years ago a friend told me while he was at a car show, a guy looking at his car said that it was a nice car, but it wasn't a factory color. His reply back was "I didn't build it for you"! Perfect!

"To each their own," "Be respectful," and "Who cares what others think" - all well put from those of you who posted these words. I couldn't agree more!

And not all of us with #s matching cars are scared to bang gears and drive them. Just sayin'...
