We found a wonderful doc THAT GOT HER OFF THE STEROIDS!!
They had me on steroids for about a year. It took that long to get my inflammation down to where it was controllable again. I went through a major flare up and they were giving me transfusions of pure steroids. I felt like Superman! Not a good thing to stay on for a long time. I was useing Prednisone off and on also. Not a good thing to be on either.
For me, it does seem to go into remission for a short time but can start up again without warning. It's very hard to find what works for you. You just have to try different meds and see how it works. Each person is different in what works the best. A person that I worked with was taking Methotrexate and it was tearing him up. Very hard on the liver. He had very advanced RA. He told me to never let them put you on it. My doctor says he has many of his patients on it. I still tell him no thanks.
I liked taking Enbril but it lowered my immune system just enough to set off a case of shingles. I ended up with permanent nerve damage in my left arm and hand. Now I'm afraid to try a bio med again. Day at a time, day at a time...
