My 64 Polara BB has a 76 400 B Block and 727 Torque Flite. The 64 console shifter has a different shift lever ratio and doesen't match the detents in the later trans.
I installed a reverse lock-out shifter and that has detents for a 4 speed. Works, but manual shifting gives me 2 shifts (clicks) in first before clicking in to second
I need a reccomendation for an after market shifter that works with the 3 speed, or a work around to use my 64 shifter.

The problem you are having is because the movement ratio for the transmission shift lever doesn't match the ratio of the shifter movement. That would mean that you have to move the attachment point for the cable or rod to the transmission lever either in or out from it's pivot point. Sometimes you have to fabricate an entire new transmission shifter lever but that's tedious and requires a lot of calculations. I did manage to install a B&M Quicksilver shifter directly in place of the OE shifter on a car like yours once but it was damn near a whole day job and the supplied cable was too long. I had to order a shorter one. It works flawlessly. I did not have to change anything at the tranny except for mounting a bent bracket supplied with the kit. In your case, it's hard to tell weather the console will accept an aftermarket shifter or not even by fabricating a mounting bracket that bolts to the tranny tunnel. Anything is really possible depending on your patience and skill.

Only one reply to this Post. Need more replys and guidance. Shifter works fine if I use only Drive/Reverse. Shifts to first and second are hit and miss.

Yatzee said it. You need a longer, or shorter, shift arm on the trans, to match the shift range on your shifter.

Get an accurate measurement off the shifter linkage 'swing', or range. Trans shift arm needs to be the same.

you need to move the cable mount point on the trans closer to the trans if it takes 2 clicks to work. do you have a pick of the shift lever on the trans? unhook the cable and move the shifter to each location and then match the lever. you should be able to figure it out.

As far as the aftermarket stuff, I've always had good luck with the old tried-and-true B&M Quicksilver... cable operated, easy to install, and good ratcheting action when manually shifting to keep you from missing a gear or hitting neutral by accident.. as long as you're not worried about any type of originality(and you can always throw the good ol' 8 ball or skull shifter knob on it haha)
