I am going to look at a 63 belvy. He says it has a 4 speed. What year did they start putting the 4 speed in them? They had 3 speeds, correct?

The T-10 4 speed trans were in 63's. The 833 could have come in Late 63's.

4 speeds were available in 1963. What engine is in the car?

I ALWAYS listen to the "Kid"
however I did read where the 63 Max Wedge dodge and Plymouths came with a 3-speed due to the fact that allegedly the 4-speed was not ROBUST enough
So, perhaps the 4-speed was better in 64?
But yeah, khryslerkid knows best...

There is no engine in the car he says. When I get to look at it I will get some pictures. He did say the shifter says Hurst.I am anxious to see the car. Thanks for the replies!!

There were factory four-speeds in 61' Chevies. Roomers of dealer-installed four-speed as far as back to 57', but no proof the last I read. One seller on eBay claimed his was a dealer installed one. Which originally what started the discussion on Trifive.com.

Oh jeesh Ski, trying to give me a fat head!

They had the three speeds for quite awhile. In '63 they were offering the 4 speed for the first time that I know of. I look at the '62 through '65 as being transition years. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn’t see it for myself but I saw a '65 with a trunion joint driveshaft the other day!

Back in those golden days you probably could get just about anything in a car if you knew the right dealer. Those days are gone. I am still hopeful to find that sweet "barn find".
