Okay, I get it that sometimes we use other components on our cars... I'm guilty, I'm running a 4L60e Transmission and a Ford 9". I did these swaps for a reason, mostly performance options, to each their own... and some have lambasted me for that.

But this one just baffled me when I saw it. It's a nice older Mopar... but some things just aren't right. lol

That's always been a sore spot with me. If it's x brand, then put a x brand engine in it! If you have money for that level of a build, do it right!
 
Yeah, I know I crossed the imaginary line with my car sometimes... but if I could have gotten a 518 built to handle what I do I would have gone that way. But the whole engine swap part I just don't get. I'm okay with a modern Hemi swap, just not okay with putting the cheapest motor you can build (SBC) into a vehicle you build because it was unique and different (classic Mopar). That's like going to Walmart and pulling red tag clothing off the sale rack to make a name-brand three-piece suit. lol

Though I have to say,... I'm toying with going to opposite direction, just because I can, and to see people's reactions when I drop a Mopar motor in an old Chevy.

I have a really clean '71 Chevy C-10 I picked up from a friend. It has a VERY tired straight-6 in it. I have a spare 383 sitting under my bench. Thought about dropping the 383 into the Chevy to go against the grain and have something different!! :)

People lose their siht when they see a Tri-Five with a Gen II Hemi in it! haha
 
To me, if it's the right combination? Nothing. To a chevy guy? Everything. they're okay with putting their engine in everything else... but don't touch the sacred bowtie with a Mopar! lol
Yea but I just got tired of continually having to fix the chevy parts.
 
We have a rod locally with just a 400-4. Have talked to the owner. Yes that engine combination really confuses people.
 
Friend of mine has a 66 Belvedere I with a Hemi, it was cloned before clones. (1969) Well he likes 65 Satellites and bought one, then went to price another Hemi, to expensive, he has the money but.... So he buys a 502 Chevy and a ford 9" trans to be determined. Couple of us are giving him a hard time about it, but the dye is cast.

I have to say, I don't understand why you, and others say you can't build a Mopar trans. SMR builds really strong 518, and 500 trans. Also, don't Cummins trucks use built 518s? I'm also curious about how well a 518 would fit in my 64, since the engine is mounted forward of the later cars. My only complaint with the 518, is the lack of a big block bellhousing.
Plus, I don't see where it's much cheaper to run a chevy trans.

Yeah, I'll drive a Chevy. I don't discriminate by brand. I drive what works best for me. I drive my Suburban because I like having something I can load up and keep everything inside and dry. We live in the country and have a steep gravel driveway, so we need 4whl drives in the winter. I drive my Suburban and my wife drives a 2012 Ford F-150.

I also like the 67-72 Chevy C-10 body, so I picked up a nice clean one when a friend of ours put it up for sale. My cars are a '69 Charger SE and a '67 Barracuda because I like the Mopar muscle cars. That being said, I wouldn't turn down a '67 or '68 Mustang fastback, or a '70 - '73 Camaro or Firebird either.

Saying I won't own anything but a Mopar is just as ridiculous as Chevy or Ford owners that say our Mopars suck. I'm a firm believer that each of the manufacturers had their good cars. I like pretty much all the old Mopars, but I think pretty much all manufacturers have made some cool cars. Such as...

'65-'70 Mustang fastbacks
'67-'68 Cougar
'37-'40 Ford Coupes
'40-'41 Willys Coupes
'63-'67 Chevy II/Nova
'65-'67 GTO
'68-'74 Olds Hurst Olds
'70-'73 Camaro

This is a magazine project car... clients come first, so we went with what we could get. At the time, the 518 that I wanted built would have cost more than than I wanted to spend, and the 4L60E being electronically controlled means street settings/race settings - I wouldn't have to build a race-only transmission.

When I started talking about the plans for the car and what we wanted to achieve power-wise, I was also told that the 518 wouldn't be a good choice and wouldn't handle our goal. So it's not necessarily me saying a 518 won't work, it just wasn't an option for me at the time.
