I was out picking apples from a tree in my pasture today.

Or is it a Woodchuck, now I know the difference.

I have watched a groundhog climb a tree faster then a cat!

Where’s the .45Colt when you need it. I can see you with a Taurus .45/.410!!

I've had them climb a sapling along the edge of the woods and they will stay on the backside like a squirrel does. As you walk around the tree, he'll keep going around, keeping the tree between you. Just do what you do when squirrel hunting and throw something behind the tree and he'll come around where you can get a shot at him. They're smart!

Maybe we could call them a Treehog.

We used to have a Lab mix that would tree groundhogs, you’d hear her barking back in the woods. A 12 gauge takes them right out of the tree. One of the most destructive animals in theses parts.

I haven’t seen any of those lately around the beach - but I’ll keep my eyes peeled..... lol.

I’m sorry, the better-half said “you don’t have to shoot them”. ( she is a different kind of Republican).Maybe she was worried about damaging the apples? Lol

Is a different kind of republican actually a Democrat in disguise?

Looks like they like fruit trees.
My labs have been sniffing around the tree alot.

I let him live, I was impressed with his skills.

I did see how dexterous it's digits were, looked very much like squirrel or raccoon.

I always thought Groundhogs and Woodchucks where one in the same.

"The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.[2] It was first scientifically described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.[3] The groundhog is also referred to as a chuck, wood-shock, groundpig, whistlepig,[4][5] whistler, thickwood badger, Canada marmot, monax, moonack, weenusk, red monk[6] and, among French Canadians in eastern Canada, siffleur.[7] The name "thickwood badger" was given in the Northwest to distinguish the animal from the prairie badger. Monax was a Native American name of the woodchuck, which meant "the digger".[8] Young groundhogs may be called chucklings.[9]:66 Other marmots, such as the yellow-bellied and hoary marmots, live in rocky and mountainous areas, but the groundhog is a lowland creature. It is found through much of the eastern United States across Canada and into Alaska"

The woodchuck was lucky he wasn't down in biomedtechguy's area. He'd be Groundhog gumbo

Those damn things are a menace on my farm They eat the **** out of the soybeans and have tunneled under the foundation of my main barn in 2 spots. I have been trying to shoot them, but every time the gun is out, they are MIA. Bastards.

Set a live trap near the barn. I'm guessing they like apples and plums. :D
If that doesn't get them out, perhaps you can smoke them out.
I saw the Wildman do that once, not sure what he did with the whistlepig afterwards....

So one solution I have used in the past for moles and voles is to stick a water hose down the burrow hole and wait till they pop out the other end and send them to a better place.

I had one under my screened in deck. He would not go into a live trap so I kept the shotgun by the door and happened to catch him/her leaving one day. Problem solved. You just have to be lucky.

Thought this was a joke but itsnot......and that's why I came in to check it out lol. Anyways, itsnot a prairie dog for sure :D
