I've seen destroyed trans before - but'''
Try and find a HP trans or pickup if you are going to rebuild
else grab one from a C body or imperial- usually not hot rodded
year makes little difference
if you find a lock up all the better
Looks like it’s a non lockup. I can get it for $200. No TC.
I’m building a stockish 440 for shows and power tour. No racing. For my application, does it matter if it’s lock up or not?
for your application not really
lockup has a little better gas mileage, several hundred less rpm at cruze and runs cooler, you can also run a looser converter and still have it lock up- the factory lock up converters were looser to give more torque multiplication for the absolutely no bottom end of the late smog 400s and 440s- without the lock up the factory would have had to lower the gear ratio- and then they had to do that too!
