Anyone know where I can get custom length steering shaft stock with different types of couplers installed on them?
I already contacted Flaming River and they are contemplating it.
I need to go from a stock 67 Coronet steering gear output shaft that's splined with a master spline to a 2004 Audi swivel coupler that's a 1/2" slot without splines. 18" overall including inside length of couplers.
So, 67 Coronet 5/8ths splined coupler on bottom end and 1/2" smooth square shaft on the other end.

Obtain the 2 ends you wish to use.I would use CM tube, cut to length and weld your ends on..........DONE:thumbsup:
Okay. Where do I get a swivel coupler that will fit over the stock splined gearbox shaft and have the other end be a DD shaped hole? Are DD shafts that are sized 3/4" actually 1/2" across the flats? Then the middle joint will need to be DD on both ends and also a swivel. Then the shaft from the middle to the Audi joint can be DD alone, IF the across the flats measurement is 1/2 inch!

hey ghost rider built one for a pickup. had to go to a rod shop to find the right couplings then bought the shaft cut it to fit an welded it up.

This worked for me..........for now:thumbsup:

Can you use the top end from what you have? Will this be a straight shaft or double jointed??
I have nothing. This will be a single joint in the middle with a swivel off the gear input shaft. So, I want a swivel that slides over the steering gear splined shaft, and then up to another swivel and from there just a DD shaft that is 1/2" across the flats to the Audi collar.

So you can use a joint like the one I have and maybe use the top of the one you have to weld it on the shaft.Should not be that hard. You can measure it up,have the ends and weld it up.Can you weld or do you need to bring it out to be done?

Something like that I would have it done. The problem seems to be the collar on the Audi end. 1/2" wide slot.

Yes, I will snap one tomorrow. The issue is nobody has a 1/2 wide square shaft...

That sound like it could be fabbed rather easy......

What if you didn't use the Audi steering wheel??

What would work with the Audi dash then? The frame is specific, I think I need to get my hands on the parts and just figure it out. It's likely that I can mill the shaft down to slide into that collar.

The Audi wheel is what I have, along with the entire dash/gauges and console... I think I have it figured out though. This shaft is out of the 86 ram truck. It's a 3/4" shaft tho.
It's plenty long enough to cut down to make the center joint at the right spot to line up with the steering gear shaft. I can mill off the cut end to flats and it will slide into the Audi collar. That's one end done. Then the joint it had on it is 3/4" on both ends. I would need a shaft that has a collar on one end for the 5/8ths gear shaft and be 3/4" to slide into the joint in the center. I will look around for the right fittings...
