Anybody Out There An A Body Guru?

It was the @Richard Cranium in your reply and same state location that got my suspicions up.
You never know with RC, he's a crafty bastard. I hope he picks up on this thread and chimes in.

Hey RC, since you were so gracious to point out the fact that this wasn't a 70 or 71 by looking at the marker lights in the first pictures of this, your knowledge is obviously deep and I appreciate it. The fact that detail jumped out at you impressed me. Now I have a test for you. Tell me if the last pic is the correct beauty ring and center cap on Rallyes for a 72 Duster with the SBP.

I'm no A-body expert, but that trim ring doesn't look like a Mopar ring to me.

By putting the@ in front of someone's screen name lets them know that they have been summoned. I saw you were looking for an answer from him so I went ahead and did it . I'm still laughing... Thanks man.

This is all too funny. All I wanted to do was get into a little **** slinging with RC.
Thanks Saver for summoning the great one and teaching me something today.

As for your comment RC, I agree. The grooves in the outer edge made me look twice but according to Wheel Vintiques this is the correct 72 and up brushed stainless trim ring. Or at least that can be had after market today. Before 72 the trim rings were supposedly polished. The dark argent center caps I'm sure are correct for 72 and up SBP. The LBP rims had light argent center caps.

Not that any of this matters because my son and I don't give a flying fart about correctness on this car. It can always be changed.
I thought it was interesting that his choices for Rallye rim options turned out to be fairly close to correct for the car.

Still laughing here.

The other thing that you may be noticing is that the trim ring doesn't extend all the way to the center of the hub portion of the rim. That pic is of the rear wheel 15 x 8. The fronts , 15 x 7 the ring snugs up to the center. Again, according to Wheel Vintiques that ring is the only one for a 15 x 8 rim which is also theirs. It's obviously made for the 15 x 7.

My question is, if you manufacture a 15 x 8 rim, why don't you manufacture a trim ring that fits correctly in stead of just saying that the 15 x 7 ring works on the 15 x 8.

I call bullshit on Wheel Vintiques.

I hear you. My oldest son is just like that, he could care less about cars. Bought him a Volvo S60 and he's perfectly fine with it. I'm a Volvo guy too, but not when I was that age.
My younger son is all about the "cool" factor. Rumbling up to school in an early Duster will definitely be cool. You don't see that very often.
Don't take this in the wrong way because I love my grandpa, but am waiting for him to die to put my hands in his Volvo Amazon 1960, he won't sell it to me , he doesn't want to fix the car or mive it that car is made of stone not steel the engine, a b18 last 40 years he use it as a daily driver and when the engine die he park the car in his warehouse and the car has been there for the last 28 years he even got a "new " engine but he just left the engine by the car ... his car and his engine . This are pictures taken by my mom in secret .

:wtf:

Quarters blocked through 220, hood pins installed, interior fully buttoned up, new door glass, trunk finished, exterior reassembled to make it street legal.
Jr. drove it all week to school, all systems go at this point (cop pulled up beside him and gave him a thumbs up).
We'll give him another week or so to enjoy it then we'll pull it back in for disassembly, blocking, prep and final paint.

Got some color on it today.
Not my best work but nothing a little color sanding won't fix.
It has come a long way. Still plenty to do.

Wow, just catching up on this post. Great job on the car. Very cool Father/Son project. This is exactly what I hope to do with my Son's on the Charger & Road Runner projects we have.

The car is looking very good. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Thanks 6PK.
Plus it's an actual Hamtramck build Duster! My Runner was built in LA :(.
Shooting the hood and color sanding this weekend.

Got the hood shot and much color sanding done (damn my painting skills have really declined over the years).
Vinyl side and tail graphics and re-assembly this weekend.

The last time I sprayed a matte clear, I messed it up. I used a traditional 50% overlap and it tiger striped like a , well....a TIGER. I called the paint guy I buy from and they said the matte requires a 75 % overlap now. It is a "matte" so you can't just sand and buff out the flaws. Matte is spray and pray.
I love the 72 Dusters....I painted THIS one...My Brother in Laws car:

No **** on the tiger stripe. You can see we got a little but it has since settled down a bit as it cures.
I noticed it on the second coat then increased to about 75% on the final coat. Still got a little. It'll do.
