Hello everyone, hoping to pick someone`s brain here :)..... I have a 71 Roadrunner, I have slowly been restoring it and im hoping to paint it soon. The paint code is GY8 which is gold poly. When I went to buy paint to spray the trunk and engine compartment the store could not come up with the mix. They contacted Nason and come up with what is supposed to be ``as close as it can get``. I want to make sure I get the right paint color, seems if you look on line at cars painted in this color code some seem to be a darker gold, and some are the light bright metallic gold like mine should be. Would anyone have the correct mix for GY8 ? Also the interior is brown....yes I know..... Anyway, code is GT8. It shows the interior and door frames are painted this color . Is the dash board painted this color ? I know it is faded pretty bad but its had to believe the nice brown that's on the door frame goes on the dash. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks everyone !!

Nason, that's the lower end line of Dupont is that correct ? Go to a different paint line like PPG and get the correct paint instead of something "close". Unless you're happy with "close enough"
Yes I believe the dash frame is gonna be the brown.

He claimed the interior is GT8 brown. Won't the dash be that brown just as some had blue and green ?

GT8 is the door frame color and it’s also a body color (glossy). It’s not the same as the dash. The dash frame will be a brown / dark gold color that’s lightly textured or suede. If I remember correctly the color is listed somewhere in the factory parts manual.

I am not happy with ``close as it can get`` that is why I thought maybe I could find someone who knew what the mixture for GY8 is. Will try several paint suppliers prior to purchasing the paint. The dash is brown , will check to see if the factory parts manual may have a number for the brown dash paint. Its not GT8 as butterscotch71 stated, wouldn't have a glossy dashboard. Thanks everyone for your input !

Ok I read thru your original post very carefully and I have some codes that may help. The codes I have are for PPG paint, that's the best I could do, your Y8 Gold Leaf Poly is PPG Ditzler 2307.. also the FSM does not show the gt8 for B-bodies. I'm just referring to what the manual shows,,, but I will give you the code for gt8. It is AB2GT8 Medium Tan Poly, ppg Ditzler 2309. The actual mix the paint store will have. Let me add my interior paint was PPG DDL Duracryl black and had DMA364 texture at 145.5, that gives it the texture feel. Now, the FSM shows 9 interior colors for the 71 Satellite,RR,gtx line, they are :
White..................1EW1
Black...................1DX9
Med blue poly.......2GB7
Brite blue poly......2GB5
Med Gold poly......2GY6
Med Dark Saddle..1GT6 I would think this would be your color
Light Gold............1GY4
Med Blue Grey ply 2GA6
Dark Green poly....2GF7

Hope this will help.

Thanks tak419 for your help, seems maybe the books and the fender tags don't coincide sometimes. GT8 comes up as Dark tan poly from the fender tag decoder I used. But I would bet the 1gt6 is the same seeing how the interior is saddle brown. I appreciate your help ! Thanks again.

Goldleaf is a great color !

I probably didn't explain it well. The gt8 that the fender tag indicates is the interior trim color, which will be seat/door panel color. The interior colors I listed are the interior paint colors for the dash/steering column etc. Example, for the roadrunner when you have the gt8 soft trim the interior is to be painted in the gt6 dark saddle if that makes sense. There is a gt8 interior paint but it's not available for the b-body, it is a choice for the a-body valiant. I have a link for the FSM download if you'd like it.

The only place the GT8 paint for your fender tag code will be present is on the back of the door frame (facing the interior). It covers the metal part of the frame that's exposed to the interior beyond the soft and plastic door panels. It is the same paint as body color paint used on other 1971 mopars.
In the attached photo, the area to the left between the door panels and the weatherstrip should be painted the "upper door frame paint" color on the fender tag. In the case of the photo, it should be black. In your case, it should be GT8.

Ok, I understand. Yes if you have a link I would like to download it. I have to say, I have been on some Chevy 409 forums looking for help and info and it seemed most people only want to put you down for not knowing certain things. I really appreciate the help from you guys ! Thanks

Not many people like GY8 for some reason. I have a 71 in that color and when it's fresh it looks great IMO. Indoor and outdoor lighting changes it a lot....

I like the GY8 , just weird how different that color looks in certain pictures. It almost has a green tint to it in the picture on the right . Maybe my brown interior wont be so bad after all..... :)

Mine actually has green interior. I wanted something different now if I can ever find the time to put it back together...

Couple questions if you don`t mind? Did you spray it base clear? What color primer or sealer did you use ? I was wondering if maybe a white sealer could lighten and brighten the color a bit. What do you think ? Thanks

Whole car was stripped bare metal then vari-primed which is yellow, then gray spray poly blocked out. Then tinted sealer, multiple color coats, then color sanded then cleared. I did not do the paint work and it's what I remember so may have missed something....
