Hey folks, I need to finalize my electrical system plans, mainly pick an alternator. The brackets that I have came from my donor 440 that supposedly is out of a 73 motor home. The attached picture is pre tear down, unfortunately the motor didn't come with an alternator. I have yet to find a picture of this particular bracket on google. It has an small offset at the hole for the alternator, and an extra hole above the top water pump housing bolt.

I'm mainly interested if it is designed for a higher amp alternator (which would be good). If it's just odd ball I will get a set from 440 source.

Thanks!
Robbie

It looks more like this

Unfortunately I can't lay my hands on the bracket by itself to get a better picture, but the "normal" brackets like this one from ebay have the holes "in a straight line" towards the point of the triangle. This thing I have, those two holes are "side by side" and that corner of the triangle is chopped off / square.

The other thing is that all the ones I've seen online so far look like one piece of flat metal. With mine, the hole that the "pivot" alternator bolt goes through is actually offset roughly the thickness of the metal.

If you're putting this engine in a B body non-air car, you need to buy the item pictured from texas69bee. Also you will need to use a water pump housing that drops the bottom hose on the drivers side.

Yeah I'm coming to the conclusion that it would be simpler to buy a new bracket set. Interesting you mention the water pump housing, I have been debating that since I also have to buy a radiator. The car is non A/C but does have power steering. Have been planning on getting a champion radiator, and they offer a "Upper Hose on Driver's Side/Lower Hose on Passenger's Side" model.

You can make that work. My personal preference is more of a stock look. It's your car and I don't want to interfere with your decisions.

I appreciate any insights you have Jerry, keep 'em coming. The last thing I want to do is buy a bunch of parts and realize they aren't going to work well together. It would be nice to hear from anyone who has run that WP housing and radiator style combo before. Guess I should start a separate thread on that.
