63 fury door closure

It took me a while to find my extra 62-3 latches in my world class inventory system. Here are some photos of what the mechanism looks like. Moving the serrated wheel that meets the door jam bracket, each time it passes one of the stars on the lower wheel (shown at tip of screwdriver) the arm secures the star wheel in place. If yours is still moving, I'd suspect the spring shown in the last photo (shown at tip of screwdriver again) may be broken and is not swinging the arm back in place to secure the wheel. Hope this helps.

Works holding the door in place on the first click,on he second click you can still push the door in another 3/4 of an inch

I guess at this point you need to decide if it's worth taking the mechanism out of the door to take a look.

I posted earlier about my ills getting my 63 Fury door to set right and the posts about inspecting the latch mech itself is a good one. My latch was damaged having to get another that solved my problem. The shaft which the gear sits had been damaged creating additional slop with the gear. Was going to try to repair it by drilling it out and installing a new shaft/bushing but came across a reasonably priced latch so nixed that idea. In any case, all the seals and stops should be intact first to obtain the final fit. If all is...have to believe the latch is the culprit.

I know the frustration mentioned I think by you miller; yeah, cussing, a cold beer (I had a few). There's a lot that could be the problem as we know. Started down the wrong path futzing with the door before getting into the latch. The driver's door gets so much more use/wear than the right obviously and chit ya can find tons of right door latches; but left door is another story. Stands to reason that latch will act differently after 50 years having so much more use...anyway it twas in my case...

Well I say Much Mahalo, Because I am having almost same prob. with my Driver side door on my Vert. I have been listening from the begining and have almost fixed my prob. So Thank You from the Big Island, C

One other thought, and I am hearing what your issue is: Are the teeth on the door jam latch arm in decent shape on that side? I believe it's a combination of the mechanism star wheel catch and the engagement of the mechanism wheel with the latch arm. When properly latched, it should hold the door in both directions, like you're seeing on the other side. If the teeth were worn, missing or beat to death that could cause the movement even if the mechanism is engaged as it should be.

what did you come up with?

what did you come up with?
Just kept adjusting with help of a friend. Pass door works great but driver door needed up and in. Also did door jam post. Many many hrs back and forth . trial and error. But finaly click click

the door shuts fine, repeat the door shuts fine,1 click than 2 clicks all lined up but after the second click you can push the door in another 3/4 of an inch, why cant someone seem to listen to what im saying, what stops the door from pushing in any further, the passanger side closes perfect, one click the 2 clicksand the door does not push in anymore,no weter stripping on that side at all,no rubber stops, nothing,is there anyone on here that knows about these latches and how they work,if so please respond,
The weather strip stops the inward movement. Adjusting the doors w/o the weather strip is a waste of time. Once the strips are in, it wont even be close. Especially if they're new. Examine the originals. If they're torn it may be that the inner stamping of the door fits to tight. I cut mine near the top of the door , slid it over and rewelded to fit.
Doug

Not true at all,the passanger side has no weather strip at all and it clicks twice then stops,I have already fixed the problem with a new latch, the new latch clicks twice then stops like it should without a weather strip, thanx for the info but its incorrect
