I'm new here and new to Mopar. I have nine Chevys and one Plymouth. The car was ordered and delivered as a Street Wedge 4 speed, still has the petal. It currently has a Max Wedge in it with a 727. I was wondering if there is a difference in the Street Wedge and the Max Wedge hood. This hood has the cut braces front and back. I would like to put a Max Wedge scoop on it but don't want to cut up a Street Wedge hood if there is a difference. I was told by the prior prior owner that there was a difference. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert 95% certain there the same except the hood scoop and the under hood bracing would be cut for velocity stack seal when you ran them and not air cleaners.

What brand, what year, what body style?
Edit: i would NEVER cut up an original steel hood for a scoop. If you want a maxwedge hood, put your steel one away, and buy a good glass bolt-on hood. Im assuming such a thing is available, but i dont know what you want to put it on.

Street Wedge used the standard hood and the Max Wedge used a hood with the braces cut out for clearance for the air cleaners. Also the hood scoop was an option on Max Wedge cars.

Just going on what you said in your opening statement. I think you have a standard hood and the braces were cut for the Max Wedge now residing there.

It is a 64 Plymouth Fury 2 Dr Hdtp. There is no doubt it was originally a Street Wedge. So if Street Wedge hoods had the braces somebody put a Max Wedge hood on it with the cut braces. Maybe at the time the Max Wedge engine was put in it. Thanks

Just wondering about the comment not to put a Max Wedge scoop on a good steel hood. It either does not have the hood it was built with or somebody cut the braces out. Either way it's wrong to the rest of the car.

I was just commenting what I would do. I cut up a nice steel hood for a scoop on my car, i wouldn't do it again. Do you want a restoration, or a street beast? If a resto, the max is already wrong, if a beast, then a glass hood with a scoop wont hurt.

I cut a Dart GTS bulge hood for the scoop to use at the track once. Been regretting it for years.

If someone already cut the underhood braces, it’s already modified. Put the scoop on if that’s what you want. If your going to restore the car, get a stock hood. I have never seen a real 64 max wedge car without the hood scoop.

It looks like the hood scoop was available from the factory with the aluminum front end so if it was an original steel front end car the scoop would have had to be added later and a original factory scoops would be aluminum.

I believe the scoop was available on steel hoods beginning with the Stage II. Could be wrong.

Post a picture of the hood. It probably doesn't matter at this point since it sounds like the hood has already been cut up by someone. So just go ahead and put a scoop on it if you want.

I bought a steel scoop for my '65 street wedge car. I like the way the steel scoop looks and it screws on rather than messing around with glass.

I'm not sure how the scoop is made, I assume the fabricator used some bucks or templates and hammered it into shape. It is some very impressive metal working. I've had several fabricators look at the scoop and they just shake their heads imagining how much time it would take to hammer some sheet metal into that shape. It fits the hood very well.

Bought this fiberglass scoop for my '64 Polara Street Wedge on E-bay. Bolts on, fit was good but with just a little work now fits perfectly and it was VERY reasonably priced.
