Looking into the swap, was wondering if anyone has any input on the kit they used or advice.
Thanks

If you have some skills and are short on cash, you can piece it together.
Silver Sport Overdrives makes a bolt-in kit if you have the cash.

Thanks all check it out.

Some builders actually prefer the 2004R. Not sure why, maybe because it is smaller and has a better gear ratio spread?
I fitted a 700R4 in a 76 Camaro in the 90s. Easy swap in those cars!

I have 2, 1 is built and low miles. other has 30k on it. figured it was just a adapter plate and crank to gm flywheel adaptor. I'm finding there's a few kits to pick from(summit-jegs) 6 to 7 hundred dollar range. and ebay has a few. Need to do a little research on them. The 200 has a lower first gear, its a little shorter and thicker in the rear. 700 being thinner helps with clearance. Just wanted to see how many have used this trany. mite be a option to consider.

Being a former Mr Good wrench, stay away from 200 POS!

The 700R4 is a pretty simple swap into the 66-70 B-body. You can use a Wilcap adapter to bolt it to the engine, and there are plenty of ways to adapt the tv cable to your linkage depending on carb style and intake design. Installation will require you to remove the top u-shaped piece of the torsion bar crossmember where it is spot welded to the floor for extension housing clearance. You will need to modify the trans crossmember to accept the GM mount at the correct pinion angle. You can use a hole saw on the crossmember to thread the speedo cable through to the 700 speedo bung ( same thread as the 727). You will need to create new cooler line sections as the 700 lines are on the passenger side. You can use a universal steel dipstick and tube for most gm applications. You will need to supply the trans with 12 volts for lockup control ( depending on how it is wired internally). "Shift Works" has developed a factory looking console shifter with neutral switch that can be installed in your console. Column shifter installation can be achieved with a little imagination and fabrication. The driveshaft will need to be re-made with the GM 27 spline yoke and appropriate universal joint.

700r4 is a decent trans but they don't hold up under a ton of power I've blown a few out over the years . I just picked a rebuilt one up 5000 miles on it for $200 for my 38 caddy build it's going behind a 305 so just a crusin setup

The 700 can be built and modified to handle 600HP reliably but it takes some special parts to get there

Thanks The trany I'm thinking of using is built and good for 700 horse. Its out of a late model vette and fresh. Its the one like a 4l60 without the computer. The motor is a rb stoker with 2 eddys and I have a gm linkage bracket for the cable. It also has electronic speedo. I'm going with new gauges so that's not a issue. I have to get a new driveshaft anyways (dana swap). Ive been looking into the 518 swap but the fact that I've been sitting on these parts and have them makes it a little easier. Thanks

The last Corvette to use a 700R4 was 1993 behind the LT-1 engine. It uses a unique 5 pin round case connector but can be re-wired and changed to the earlier square connector. None of the Corvettes beyond 1983 had a provision on the case to accept a transmission mount so check that first before you start your swap. The Corvette used a shorter extension housing and output shaft than any other 700R4 and a unique tail housing mount that incorporated the link to the rear diff.

That's the one I have, link or arm mounts to the passenger side of the tail shaft. it take 2 through bolts from top to bottom. Its a tci street fighter version. was thinking I could make my own mount off the side.(My car is not a factory cross member or frame.) But that's what I was thinking, not sure if at all possible that way.

Tci has a kit just over 500$ crank, bellhousing adapter and flywheel for this swap.
This is what I'm going to use.

You probably dealt exclusively with stock 200's, the 200R4 can easily be built to take a lot of power just like the underrated 904 TF.
I've never had one or no much about them. I just have this and another trany leftover from a couple 6 speed swaps. figured it was a good idea. But soon will tell. Not sure I would be doing this if I didn't have it already. But thanks for the info

I picked up the TCI 149180 kit dirt cheap at a swap meet. The mounting plate had already been shaped as not to be used as a mid plate.
Now the kit I got was was for an 8 hole crank ( if anyone needs a new flywheel I have one), I have a 6 bolt. The flywheel adaptor is $200.
I'm still not sure if I want to go that way...I have a brand new pan and am not keen on cutting it to make a 700 fit. I dont know the size differences between the two. Thought about going with a 4l80e since the Terminator will/can control gm tranny.
May just save up and buy a GV later on...

I don't think you need to cut the pan for the 700 swap. there's a thread on here where it was done on a wagon. 66 or 67 wagon. Mine is a 6 hole also. Thanks , Your cars looking good.

Thanks for the compliment!
I was looking at pics of the 700, I thought it might work but wasn't for sure!
Here is the adaptor after the plate was shaped.
Need some more pics of your ride!!!
