Tried driving my 69 Coronet today
It wouldn’t start
There was gas seeping out from the base of the carb and throttle linkages
I was befuddled
I removed the needle valve and sure enough, there was a piece of fuel hose in there
I cleared it and reattached the fuel line.
It still won’t start
It kinda caught but didn’t stay running
There is fuel in the carb.....
Charging the battery now
Do I need to change the plugs. Ow?
Help

Is the carburetor no longer leaking gas. If it is, fix that first. If not, see if it is delivering fuel with the accelerator pump. I don't think you need to swap plugs with a flooding carburetor, but you may need to let it sit to have the gas evaporate and get past a flooded situation. If you have fuel and spark you should be OK.

Could be your fuel hose is deteriorating if thats what you found a piece of. If it wasn't ethanol compatible they will break down. It could be clogging up things.

As KK said hose could falling apart, on inside. Time to change them.

Ditto to both gentlemens' comments above.
When you go to the store to fetch fuel line, make sure you specify you want the fuel line
compatible with ethanol, i.e. "fuel injection" hose.
Why they even offer the older stuff anymore, I have no idea.

All good comments, but make sure you change the oil immediately too once you know the carb is no longer leaking.

Thx for the help
I thought I got it cleared, but it’s doing it again
I found a large piece of hose in the needle valve, but apparently it’s got something else stuck in there
Will replace the hose and advise
Why should I change the oil?
I am curious
Thx

Gas diluted oil doesn't lubricant very well. Could cause bearing failure.

Todays oils make it even more important than it used to be. But the core issue is you cant really gauge how much gas might have made it into the crankcase, and it's going to do damage before it can burn away.

And...your carb probably needs to be completely rebuilt. Mainly because of all the trash in it, now. There's too many little areas in a carb, that even the smallest piece of trash, makes it not work right. Plain problems.
Filter will need to be changed, and a good chance fuel lines need to be flushed, to get a fresh start. If not done, just asking for trouble down the road.

Replaced the fuel line from the metal stub off the fuel pump to the needle valve
New filter too.
The car started and ran
I did not notice any debris in the needle valve like before, but could see some deterioration of the older rubber hose
I am now changing the oil and will let you know how it goes
The engine seemed to hesitate a bit at times and did die once or twice but seemed to run better after a while
Will update you all after the oil change is done
I may have to crack open the carb to check the float area

There's a chance, some of the ports in the carb, would have trash in them. Carb cleaner and air pressure to get them cleared out. But, probably needs to be apart to get to them.
