I did a little photo shopping to be able to visual what a 66 Charger rear wheel opening would look like grafted onto a 66 Coronet.

I'm planning out the resto of my Coronet 500. Both sides have minor rust at the usual locations ..... lower rear quarter panel, along top of wheel opening, front of wheel opening.

I've also looked at the patch panels available for both models, have done a good many measurements on my Coronet and a friend's Charger. There doesn't appear to be any quarter window or rocker issues.

IMHO - primary pro is increased tire/wheel clearance (width) with either stock or inboarded leaf springs; con, if you want to consider it a con, is the outer wheel well mods.

I posted in this forum as it is the most likely place to solicit ideas, opinions, etc.

Looking for any and all input .... fire when ready!

I have seen that on several cars over the years. It just doesn’t work and it looks bad in person. Very bad.

Discussing this with others there and it was just about a unanimous dislike for this modification.

Keep in mind this is at a mopar car show and most folks there like stock original things. So the audience was biased to originality.

I’ve also seen 66-67 b-bodies at the drag races with radiused rear wheel wells of different shapes and I’ve never seen any that looked good.

I tend to fall in line with keeping the stock body lines .... I can't say that I've seen a 66 coronet modified like this in the flesh ..... hence my post. Thanks for looking and posting your response.

Ummm, no.

Makes it looks like the back end could just snap off. The Charger fastback holds it up on that car.

I just looked at your build thread .... can you tell where this pic was taken in 1972?

Actually I think I do know where that was/is.

535 E Main St facing east. That’s next to the where Stetler Dodge was.

There is a member at http://dodgecoronet.com/, that has a red 67 Coronet R/T done this way. It was apparently done many years ago. While I don't personally care for the look, you can look his car up on that site. He posts a lot, and will be easy to find. I think his user name is 67r/t4speeder or something similar.

Here's a pic of his car with the Charger wheel opening. I don't like it. Looks odd.

I agree with post #4

The roof line and wheel well opening work together on the Charger.

I personally LOVE the 66/67 Coronet roof line but it does make the top of the quarter look too narrow and exaggerated with the big opening of the Charger wheel well.

@AJReigart -

I'm slooowly building a database of 383-4 66 Coronet 440's (Not 500's).

There were only 1679 built.

So far I have about 12 including 2 four speed cars and 3 with AC (including mine)

Do I have yours?

The white 440 is long gone ... had it in the early 70's .... pretty sure the guy that bought it from me introduced it to a tree ....... end of story

It just messes with the whole symmetry of the long quarter top. Makes it look shorter and then the roof line doesn't work.

I'm not really sure how I feel about it.. But at least you wont be limited to rim offsets and wide tires. I think it only looks good if you fill up the wheel gap snug.

Another pic for reference (not mine)

- My Coronet has the same mod done (back in the 70s), and I haven't decided if I like it or not, but my build is going to be a bit of a 70s street machine vibe, so with the big tires, it works. Ill post a pic of mine if I can find a good one (still a project).

If they didn't have the lower body line going through there it would look ok, ,but that spoils it.

I was about to say Noooooo, but WildEarp, yours looks pretty dang good with that particular wheel/tire setup!
