I have a new Accel dist for 383, their latest with bearings on the shaft etc. and the stabilizer for the shaft to prevent deflection?. I want to put it on an RB block, of course its to short- has anyone increased the length the3/8" or so to do that? suggestions?

Whew, way back there was a spacer to go the other way- RB to 383. Change shaft?

Hmmm... I think you're stuck. Maybe sell it to someone building a low-block stroker and buy a RB one?

Cut another shaft for extra length, allow for slot to cut to connect to dist shaft. All you to do is have a 1/2" ID sleeve go from oil pump drive to the collar of dist.. Drill a couple through sleeve and dist. shaft and extension put in a couple of roll pins. That will hold it together. Probably easier to buy a new dist., unless you have a friendly machinist.

Off hand, think the only dif is the length of the main shaft. Swap shafts?? Maybe.
Soon, I'll have some Accel parts and pieces...something to play with.

I have used the cut the shaft and extend it method as mentioned by Fran Blacker......just make sure the bottom slot of the shaft is positioned as before.....have one on my 325 Dodge hemi that has been that way for many years...works great

yes -they should have made them all long and included the spacer. there are no shafts for this style dit, they stopped making them over35 years ago, they are different than the typical accel dist in that they have torrington and needle bearings to keep them perfect to 10K RPM. I've thought of buying another from a 440and seeing if it can be adapted but?

thats a great idea and one I'd had done on a 392 that needed the shaft extended,I'd forgotten tht one-so long ago.
this one cannot be extended3/8" but it can sure be cut off higher like you say and sleeve it. now to see if I've a donor dist shaft around, thanks all.

thank you, I'm on it,well I'm going to get someone to "on it" for me. sounding to EZ now and yup gotta keep the tang clocked.

Geri can you post pictures of what you do?

uhhh I'm 78- retired, and posting pictures of what I do is considered evidence in 34 states and 7 countries. : ) actually still just dabbling in what parts and pieces I have left.
the '64Dodge 330 sedan build went bust as the entire floor pan was rusted out- way beyond what I can do or afford. I lost about 8-9 K on that but not unhappy its gone, seeing it was a bad reminder of my poor decisions.at this point I have no car cleaned out the garage of most mopars and parts, trying to decide o n a course.
oh- and I do have this ol thing.

Hear you just turn 70 and issues with legs a feet. Some fat guys been walking on 'em.

actually I'm almost 79, the leg issue was running a piece of angle iron into my calf, ironically cleaning the garage-so I wouldn't trip and run a piece of angle iron into my calf. Murphy law#764.8

If you have access to a lathe? You'd have no problem cut it but machine an alignment pin in each piece, add the needed length with receiving pockets, weld the turn it down for a virtually invisible repair...

I use to have one of those Accel racing dual points.. Very high quality....

I do have a lathe although my skills with it are suspect. and I found I have a donor distributor
so the sleeve option is lookingg ood. OK, I'll take it to a machine shop who am I kidding.
I used the accel dist for years in the 70's their ability was as good as any battery ignition. better than most and the feature I like is the individual wires to the points. I used a toggle switch to open the circuit on the lead set of points when shifting to high gear, lot of MPH gain and ET drop. it retards the dist 7 degree's.

You aren't the first racer to use that little trick....

absolutely not- I dont recall where/who I got that from but it is an awesome ET/MPH boost for no $$$. it may even have been a printed message from Accel? can't remember. it was no secret thats for sure.

no,I certainly wasn't but it works. I got the shaft lengthened with a piece of another dist shaft- sliced it to fit the tang on the Dist shaft and put a sleeve over them.

I’ve taken shafts from stock RB distributors and switched them into stock dual point B distributors. You might want to look into doing this for yours. I’m pretty sure that the shafts in the Accel are the same as the stock Mopar shaft.
