Getting on a plane shortly. Always a weird day at the airport. Never forget.

My brother in laws older brother was on the second plane, we will never forget! His funeral was a very sad event,the family didn't have his body to mourn with. His final resting place is in the rubble of the second tower. RIP Jamie,and to all who were lost on that day.

My daughter's birthday as well.
RIP to all that perished that day. I also watch every year the stations that have remembrance topics from that day. Bless our country and the men and women who serve to protect.

The one thing that will always stick in my mind is the deafening silence of the no fly rule after that day. It was eeire, and I dont remember any other such order from Washington in my lifetime.
@Ironbuilt You're up early, thx for the reminder. Got me thinking early.... a little later on I saw a fully mature bald eagle fly over the property, got me thinking all over again.

Ive posted this numerous times before but again if there is one must do in your life, assuming you haven't, a visit to ground zero is a must do.
The walking tour around the towers footprints is very good and the museum is excellent.
You could finish up your day with a trip to the observation tower at the top of the freedom tower.
I never thought of it as a tourist attraction but rather a somber place to reflect on lives lost and the aftermath during the the attack on our country.
My own personal opinion is its not someplace id take young children. A little older so they understand would be better, but again thats just my observation.

later that day the only aircraft I saw was military fighter planes. Years later I met a navy pilot who is the brother in law of a relative, who flew over the city that day

My USMC brother/roommate and I also noticed....the sky that day was gray and overcast, whereas it was clear sunny and warm the days before and after (early September is still summer here). Weirdest of all, and this is no BS, there was not one single bird chirping. We lived on an acre and always had birds and their noise but that morning they had gone totally eerily silent, as if they were mourning along with us.
