Every once in a while you find an A-hole on e-bay...

I don’t have a lot of stuff but what I have I’ve been giving away rather than sell stuff on eBay. I just don’t want the hassle and don’t like their fee structure. I bought a few things off there when I couldn’t find elsewhere. I do like to buy on Amazon. Never had a problem and their CS is excellent. I would be pissed as hell if I was beepbeep - what a pos the buyer was....
Got a phone number for customer service where i can talk to an english speaking human? I cant find one.

$250 plus shipping dated 164th day of '72. Only one to reference I found to price was a rusted one, cut wires and was sold as a core sold for $225... That guy was happy with that one though lol..
ok , I was just curious, I'm glad I found one when I did. they don't come up for sale very often.
you definitely made it clear that it was sold in unknown working condition. there's no argument there. I have bought a lot off of eBay, the only issue I've ever had was with brand new items that were junk. every used item has been as described or better.

Called them many times - have yet to have a problem talking to anyone.
I'm serious. I want to talk to somebody there. I cant find an actual phone number for customer service.
What number do you use? Or is it a closely guarded Amazon secret?

Go to the menu drop down on the top left. Scroll down to the bottom to CS. Click on that and go to the bottom where it says contact us. Click and find the “call us” two down from the top. Hit that and they will call you in 5 seconds or less. It’s unbelievable almost but highly efficient.

I've been a member on there since March 1999. Sold a bit but mostly a buyer on it.
I've seen it when times were good (it was a Godsend for finding parts in the earlier years compared to the
usual swap meets and word of mouth) and watched it slowly erode over the years.

Most long-time sellers I know on there (and I know plenty of 'em, especially since joining the EBM
EBMDB "community" several years ago) now use eBay more as advertising than an actual selling venue.
Can't beat the exposure numbers of being on there, after all.
My numbers on there were never huge (maybe 300 transactions in all these years) and I've only had a
couple go sideways really. Doing your due diligence and knowing how to write an ad to protect yourself
go a long ways in keeping the fuss to a minimum, but there's so many other venues to find stuff anymore...
and for that, I'll give them their due - being pioneers of the online marketplace, they did pave the way
for bazillions of other companies in regards to shipping, banking, etc.

It's even still fun in the wee hours of a Sunday morning to scan the auto section, even if you know it's
all a train wreck there for that (remember, nowadays any "deal" on there on a car isn't considered a
legally binding contract anymore!).
Again, can't beat the exposure if you're selling - but the deal isn't over, and you have little recourse, until
actual funds and documents have changed hands.
Go into it with that mindset and you'll be playing in Realsville. :)

So what happens when you get the item back, and find it was swapped out for a different one that the guy bought from another unsuspecting seller? What will eBag say to that ? You'll probably get stung again....I hope you don't....but it could happen.

Selling here would be much safer.
I agree I prefer selling here that is for sure. Was just trying to get some quick money it was a tough month with bills. Put $1400 in our one truck recently, went on a few days vacation, our stove went bad bought a new one $600 and spent $1800 on surgery for our furry kid. Plus all the normal monthly bills....
I did inform e-bay that if I see that any screw was touched I will not refund the purchase cause that means he altered or swapped parts. They said to contact them if that is the case and they would provide "seller" protection whatever that is... And not to refund payment instantly and I have up to 2 days to inspect...

I sold an electric headlight door motor I had listed on here through e-bay. It was sold as a nice clean used unit, working condition unknown. Idiot who buys it now says I lied about the condition of it that it "spins" to freely and would need rebuilt and wants his money back. I accepted the return cause after talking to e-bay rep they said I have no rights even though it was listed as used working condition unknown Buyers have all the rights. She then said he could return it up to 6 months!!! E-bay is a necessary evil but Thank God for these Mopar sites as I prefer them....
I do a lot on E-bay and more than once I've gotten bit by a seller that was dishonest. E-bay took care of those issues which does lend to the fact that the buyer should be protected.

I use eBay regularly.
I sell a ton of surplus electrical equipment and parts on there.

When I retrofit an electrical system at work, the old equipment gets thrown in the dumpster. I cherry pick “good” items to sell on ebay. (Circuit breakers, Hvac controls, fuses, motor starters, etc....)

Basically, free money.

I buy a ton of stuff for my hobbies on there as well. Again, “free” money in PayPal is a great way to fund my follies.

I’ve had my fair share of morons over the almost 20 years of participation, but where else can I sell used **** while I sleep?

Just like anything else, learn to navigate the system and proceed with caution. I will say my “blocked bidder list” is quite large.

To the OP, I’m sorry to hear about your problem. It sucks, for sure.

Lots of crazy stories about ebay. I quit 10 years ago using both Ebay and PayPal. Unfortunately for me, I had 3 credit cards(accounts) when using both, hacked in a span of about 4 years. It was a pain in the *** to correct the mess. Now I love doing the swap meets wherever I can find them. Socializing is a lot more fun at these. Don't get me wrong, a lot of folks will swear by EBAY as the best thing for them, and thats fine. It just did not work out for me and the frustrations involved.

When ebay went public it was all downhill for their customers, investors want all the $$$. Happens to all of them. Good place to buy, but not to sell.

As a general rule I do not buy anything from private sellers on E bay. I do not have a need or desire to sell anything I own, I give stuff away instead.
So being a e bay seller is something im not interested in.
Last year I came across a really nice original Airco burning torch. Original Airco's are getting scarce, the company is out of business and ive had knockoffs that became unrepairable.
They are great work torches that can take a lot of daily use. I can wash hundreds of feet of weld and it never ever overheats.
I took a gamble and bought it as the price was reasonable.
It was advertised as being in perfect working condition. Some time after I received it, I finally tried it out and it worked well but the oxygen valve leaked badly when it was shut, rendering it unusable.
I had it rebuilt and now its fine, it was costly but im satisfied.
Thats my experience with E bay

I've heard second hand of that. If I have a item I'm worried about, I tell the buyer that I marked it secretly, usually UV pen, and I'll process a refund when I see it

I sell things on ebay, but I really don't like it. Have to raise the price to cover ebay and paypal fees. I sell only buy it now and don't accept returns.
I have never had a problem with items I sold there. Lately they really have been pushing to allow offers and lowering the price by 5% every week or
so. I also think that when one has watchers on an item, it's a ploy to lower the price. ebay is like the car auctions where they press a seller to
remove a reserve price, they make their 10% whatever the car sells for. I made the mistake of buying a 64 Chrysler to part out. The C body web
site is a bust. I sold some tail lights there and the buyer didn't even leave feed back. Everything I have sold from that car has been on ebay. The
thing that irks me the most about ebay is that they get 10% of the shipping as well as the 10% they get for the item.

That is because years back dishonest sellers would put .99 on a part and $50 shipping getting all the money for the part and shipping paying fees on $.99..

I agree for dishonest people but the buyer should NOT be "protected" when buying a clean core to rebuild and the item is being sold as is from an honest seller....

Been a member for a lot of years and have never sold anything on there....just bought stuff.
