Guess at tire and wheel size

Based on this photo, can you guess/speculate on the rear wheel and tire sizes? This photo has me drooling, and I would love to set my car up like this one. Also, could this have been done with shocks/springs in stock locations or was this car mini-tubbed and the shocks and springs moved inboard?

Man that looks like a 10" wide wheel on the rear. I run 15x8's and the tire bulges quite a bit and this looks wider with no bulge on the rear. I would guess 295/60/15 range for the rear. The front looks like a 235/60 or a 215/70.....somewhere in that range.

Definitely looks like a 10” wheel. A 295/50/15 tire would be shorter than the one in the picture, and it also kinda looks like a drag radial, so I’m guessing it could be the M&H 275/50/15”

You can fit a 10” wheel with stock spring and shock locations but things are tight with the tire.

This is a 255/60/15 on a 8” wheel and you can see how much more room there is.

A 275/50/15 would be shorter than a 295/50/15 would it not? Atleast in normal tire specs on tirerack, its shorter (smaller diameter) than a 295.

Oops, yes you’re right, I was thinking it was one of those 315/50’s or 325/50’s but typed 275 by mistake. Good catch

Yes, a 275-50 would be shorter and smaller than a 295-50.
That picture blown up as big as i can get it, looks like a M/T et street radial pro. They only come in two sizes, 275-60x15, and 315-60x15. (Note: 60 series, taller than a 50). I think you can get a 275 under a 69 runner, on the right rim, but if thats a 315, and thats what it looks like, i think he had to move the springs at least, and maybe a mini-tub. I have a set of 315s,and a 69 runner, and i very seriously doubt the 315s would fit!

All good man! You had me thinking for a minute there like maybe I was going the wrong way too.


My 68 Runner rubs lightly with a 255/70/15 under the rear. I am unsure if the 275/60/15 will fit on the Runner without rubbing at all over bumps. I am redoing the car and want to run a 275/60/15 but don't wanna rub the upper wheel tub inside and scuff the redline tires. The 255/70 is 29.1" diameter and the 275/60 is 28" so I am hoping someone will agree that will fit better. They fit fine on my 68 Charger, but the quarter on the Runner is a bit diff and I am unsure if the inner wheel tub is identical on the Dodge and Plymouth.

I ran a 10 1/2x28 mickey slick on my runner, no problem. That tire is bigger than a 275-60x15. I think a 275x60 should fit fine, on the RIGHT rim, with the right backspace. Mine were on a 15x8 1/2 centerline autodrag with 4 7/8 backspace. ( a little too much backspace can be fixed with a small wheel spacer, if you dont have enough bs, the tire will rub the fender.) I use the same wheels and the same slicks on my 62, but i have to use a .350 spacer, the 62 wheelwells are tighter.

Cool! I might throw one tire on from my Charger and see how it looks. Just to be sure it'll be all good and look ok.

Funny, i run a 255-70×15 street tire on my 62 too. I've got it on what i think is a 15x8 ramcharger rim. I barely fits, cause the backspace is only 4". It's got a "finger" to the fender, and more than an inch to the springs. Four and a half inch bs would be much better.

The factory 15 x 8 Ramcharger - Trailduster wheel has a 4 1/4 backspace.
15 x 8 wheel with a 4 1/2 backspace is the ticket for a B-body.

Thanks Frank. I was told that those wheels were custom made, but i found it hard to believe someone would do a custom at only 8 inches. I did a little research and found the ramcharger wheels,and assumed that's what i had. Maybe they are custom after all!

Factory wheels should have part number ( last 3 numbers 550 ) and date codes , near the valve stem. Also inside the wheel band.
I have seen custom 15 x 8 steels made at 4 inch backspace. Also I have seen wheels that are supposed to be one backspace , then you measure them and they are not...
