(Top Gun)
Lol. Black F-5s with red star designation on their stabilizers come through our ANG base from time to time. Not very good pics, but they're tough to get when hurriedly fumbling to get the phone out and activate the camera..

Every few years a bunch of fighters will pass through on their way to the arctic for training and war games. This past summer five of them went over the town and gave a mini show, including low, slow passes and a few acceleration runs etc.
The entire town shook. It was awesome!

Aggressors out of Fallon NAS or could be AF out of Nellis. Fallon is where the Navy Top Gun school is located.

When I lived in Yakima WA our house was on the approach to the local airport. Once a year the aggressors take part in air to air with units up in Alaska. They would usually fly into Yakima to refuel. A4s and F18s with the light gray Camo and red stars. One year they flew in two MiG 29s. That was a real treat in that they flew over our house making their approach.

A few years before we moved I had a GO ARMY banner made up and placed it on the roof. I got at least a second fly over on one wing wiggle. I forgot about the banner so I went by our old house and it’s still up there. I told the new owner and he said he would leave it. Probably pretty weathered by now.

Lemoore NAS, F-35’s, Super Hornets are always flying over my town, Hanford. My son loves to see them and when they fly by, he says to me “dad, that’s the sound of freedom”! I think I’ve taught him well.

Luv’d the F4
Huge plane....low and fast but a MIG 21 could do a figure 8 within the turning radius of the 4. Also, in the first few years of Nam, they didn't have any guns on them. What moron thought of that!? The first time to see a 4 up close, it surprised me at how big they were. I don't hate them but glad they ain't buzzing my home anymore and especially during air shows lol. I'm pretty close to the old Ellington AFB.

Nothing like two F4’s taking off on afterburner

I was staged out of Incerlick Turkey waiting for Iraqi freedom to kick off. Daily the Turk F-4 took off out of shelters to bomb the Kurds in the N of Iraq before we went in and joined up with them. Well cats are kind of like gods there and are everywhere. They used to start the planes u in concrete shelters/revetment then taxi out and had to bum the engines u to get moving. I had to see 50 flaming felines shoot out the blast deflector ducts! Pretty funny actually.

Ever see one come off of the end of the run way and pull the nose straight up? Looked like it would hang in mid air for a couple of seconds just above the tarmac like it was going to sit down butt first then take off full after burner until the 'twins' looked like a single yellow dot and then out of sight. They would do touch and goes and the goes were straight ups time after time after time. Never seen anything like it....or since then and didn't know that any plane could do straight ups until I saw it. Yup, the F-4 was quite the beast. Was stationed at Hahn AFB from late summer of 71 until early spring of 73 and it was pretty much all they had there......

I got to Zweibrucken AB in February 73, working on the RF-4's as a crew chief, Phantom Phixer.

I used to like seeing them at the end of the runway, during night flying missions, lighting them up in afterburner, with the orange, blue, flame coming out the *** end of those engines.

Saw lots of that!! Saw enough to the point where it was nearly too much. Kinda like watching a fireworks show for over a year and a half lol. Gotta say that I'm fortunate that I didn't end up in Nam because I did get my draft notice but slid out of that and into the AF instead. Lot story short, I had been in contact with the AF a full year before I was 18 but after a long conversation with a lifer AF uncle, I decided to not join unless I had to.....

The Lemoore boys come through often as well, 18s and those F35s....impressive, futuristic, and loud..awesome. The resident F15s are badass too. But then hell I love them all!:)

I forget your just up the road and see/hear the planes like I do.

I met 'Duke' Cunningham in about '89...he was great and was more than happy to tell me just how they handled MiGs in the big 'ol F4. That was a real treat for me! Coulda listened to that old boy's stories all day..

While we're here....a couple of weeks ago, Saturday Dec 7th. I was loading up some demo'd fencing from my USMC father-in-law's place and at just about 10:55 am (7:55 Hawaii time) a pair of F15s went over, flying low slow laps over the entire city of Fresno. They had to be at about 500' and they passed over our heads numerous times..they'd pass, circle a few times, then move to a different part of town, then come back over again. Any other day it would've just been, "wow awesome!" But knowing why they were doing it gave us both goosebumps..It got us so emotional we couldn't speak to each other for a couple of minutes.

Duke is getting up there these days. You had to be good to take out the MIG's especially without having guns. I would imagine he had them by the time he was out there killin em. If not, he was one of the lucky ones....
