Are the vents int he dash insert in the '71 to '74 cars removable in a non-destructive way? I bought an extra insert from a member and want to experiment with putting a vinyl wrap on it but need to get the vents out of my way first.

There are little tabs that hold it then in place. Challenge is after so many years, things are brittle and metal is stuck. Hopefully, someone will chime in and provide a good way to remove them. You could make a template for the wrap and mask off the vents.
I gave up trying, and decided since I had painted my dash black, it would look better black than the carbon fiber I have elsewhere.

good luck!

I've tried pushing the pins through and they won't budge. Given the age of the piece, I'm very afraid of breaking the piece.

Today, I decided the vents were either coming out or I was breaking the piece. I tried and failed three times yesterday to wrap it with the vents in it. The two pins on the ends I was able to put a small socket over the heads and start them out with a pair of pliers. The middle pins I was able to knock out with a small hammer and thin drift. So, they do come apart, but the design of the pins makes it a little difficult to just push them through.

i gave you a like because of this statement "I decided the vents were either coming out or I was breaking the piece. I tried and failed three times yesterday". i finally figured out how to remove a 72 Charger Brougham door pull strap using the Joe Pesci "Casino" method. . after having spent $50 on shop literature.
