I have been looking into changing my A833 in my 69 Super Bee to a 5 speed. Running 4.10 gears, I could really use that extra od gear!
Looking at kits. So far, American Powertrain, and Silver Sport, have sent me quotes. Any other place to get a quote? Or does anybody know a lot about Tko installs in B-bodies?
Is there a whole lot of cutting on the tunnel, or as American Powertrain says, just for the shifter?
Any advice as to where the best place to get a complete package that fits the easiest?

Thanks for the advice. I think the T-5 is rated at 300ft lbs torque. I don't know exactly what my torque is, but, the hp was supposedly dynode at 520hp. That's why I'm looking t a TKO. I would definitely like a smaller case though!!

If I had to do an over-drive again it wound be a Gear Vendors. A TKO 600 can take a beating BUT the 2-3 shift is LACKING.

I have the SST. The 2-3 issue is resolved. Shifts fine, an improvement over the previous Keisler TKO 5. No leaks either.

Thanks for all the advice! Both are priced around $4700. SST kit includes sheet metal for shifter seal, AP doesn't. Guess they don't think I need it. It is a console car. AP thinks I can still use my pistol grip, SST says the angles won't work and may hit the console. Both seem to include their upgraded shifters. SST has the SPX, and AP has their White Lightning, which is cool that you can adjust the springs to your liking. Both say they modify the case a bit to fit better. American Powertrain is the largest Tremec dealer, but, Silver Sport is way up there. Both seem like great places to buy from.

I'm running a TKO-600 from SST with a pistol grip in the console on my '69 Sport Satellite. Everything lined up perfect during the install, shifter clears everything without any problem. Mine was an automatic conversion though, so there may be some differences there. No issues at all with the 2-3 shift, like Dennis said above, SST got that all fixed. The new transmission crossmember angled the engine back just slightly, making my TTI header collectors hang a little lower than they used to and causing an issue with the idler arm rubbing across one of the header pipes. I think they did this to make a little more clearance in the trans tunnel, but I ended up making a spacer for underneath the trans mount so it would sit about an 1/8th inch higher to fix those issues and I still haven't noted any rubbing, although it's real close in a couple of spots. No cutting other than a small hole for the shifter.

Thanks 440! Glad to know the install wasn't too bad, and only a little cutting. I'm not worried about 2-3 shift. I think it has been addressed and some could be old 4 speed guys not used to tighter gates

Have you considered Passon's A855 ? Direct replacement for the A833, no mods necessary. That's if you can wait for it. The waiting list is long.

5 years. That makes me 71.

My Passon Performance a855 is awesome. Although it absolutely requires ZERO mods, NO cutting or banging or bending, the reasons why I got it is the conservative 700 continous ft lbs of torque strength rating, which I hope to put to the test eventually. It is an amazing machine from an engineering perspective, and the type and quality of parts/materials that go into it are 1st class.
Having said that, who knows how long it would take to get a new one. I kept my 18 spline a833 for a spare, just in case the 855 needs service or repair.
We went through American Powertrain for a well optioned TKO600 for the GTO, including the White Lightning shifter mechanism. I also piggybacked the Hydramax hydraulic throwout bearing for my Roadrunner into that deal. It arrived a few weeks after we ordered it, and I am excited about getting it between the performance built 421 Tripower and the Quick Performance Ford 9" based rear axle assembly.
I can speak from 1st hand experience, having an OD 5th gear, or the Gear Vendors OD is really great when you like to drive, but don't want to sacrifice jetting off the line and overall snappy response that a numerically high ring and pinion gearset delivers. I switched out the 3.54 to a 4.10 when I did the 4 to 5 speed swap, and I love it! If I decide to go on long road trips in my Roadrunner, I may swap the 3.54 back in, but 2,750 RPMs in 5th at 72 MPH is pretty nice w/the 4.10

True - I'm plugging away at 1500rpm @ 70mph and it is awesome to just cruise without spinning over 3000rpm just to get from A to B on poker runs and far away car shows
