I thought that I was going to be quarantined soon. Today, Sacramento and Placer county were both ordered to comply with the "Shelter in Place" restrictions.
On the job, each day was looking like it could be the last one. Word came down that some influential people in the construction industry twisted some arms and as a result, ALL construction workers are exempt from the restrictions.
California infrastructure and other construction projects have been deemed Essential in the same way that grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants have been.
I thought I'd be sent home for 2-3 weeks but apparently, the big-wigs feel that construction needs to stay running.
I'm working on a school project that is scheduled to open in the fall. We are supposed to be done and clear out by the end of May.
I've been in contact with a few blue collar buddies, a few that work in the SF bay area. They are all working. Another works in Sacramento, he is sitting at home. A friend that does maintenance at a High School in Auburn is only working 2 hours a day, 3 days a week. Huh ?
How is it looking for you ?

Well I work for myself and by myself so I'm still alone in my shop all day. Nothing new there. Have family and friends that have been sent home.

I do air duct & dryer vent cleaning. I had hoped, with everyones mind on health, and sitting at home, i'd be swamped. Hec, even around the holidays, dryer vents still clog up. I haven't had one call in days.

I have been affected. I work abroad and can return to my home country, but cannot come back. I am leaving today, so at least three months off for me. Oh well, a change is as good as a holiday and at least I will be home.

I'm trying to find out where I apply for loss of income for small business that our leader has promised.... while I continue to work at home in a different building! :D

I think once people will realize your the man they need most of all in this crazy mess we are in, you wont be able to keep up with the work load. As sterilization is one of the biggest parts of controlling this virus

Prayers out to everyone being affected by this...I cant imagine having to worry about no income for an extended ammount of time , especially those still supporting families.

I'm an electrician for a local school district. Monday was a full day but the rest of the week was 6 hour days. Starting next week we will be splitting up and going on 3/2 then 2/3 work weeks, 6 hours a day. So we will work 30 hours and get paid for 80....not a bad deal.

I’m considered essential. Being 66 I could play the ‘at risk group. Others are.
That would give me 2 weeks off administrative leave with full pay. Virus Schmirus.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Considering the risk involved, its not ideal, but i sent an email to royal caribbean cruise lines, to solicit my services. The equipment i use isn't truck mounted, and could be used in tight quarters on ships. Its risky, but it would keep me " above water ".

I’m retired and sent myself home.....

The wife is a Registered Nurse and works at U of CA Medical Center. All Covid-19 patients are being directed to her floor. Yes I’m worried - she’s like a soldier......

We have a good bit of work that we were getting ready to start for a winery; but they have ceased contract work for the time being and gave us the heave-ho. We have some stuff to take care of at a plate-glass manufacturing facility (they can't just "shut down" their massive furnace) so we'll thankfully have that to keep busy with over the next few weeks. Even though I'm not a regular field guy anymore I'll be gearing up and working with the tools...gotta always keep the skills sharp. Coronabugs don't stand a chance where we're going! (150° environment).

Please thank her for her service, on my behalf, and i'm sure others here.

I’ve been working at a NASA facility lately.
Our projects are considered “mission critical” as of now, so we are still working.
The facility is on level 3 shutdown. If they go to level 4, we are out.

So you're seeing the capsule heading out to Mansfield for a flight out on the Super Guppy?

I work for myself doing Property Maintenance so as long as I can get fuel I can work. It is all outdoors around no-one. My son's does Residential carpentry and the Governor deemed them unnecessary(non-life essential) as of 12:01am this Saturday so next week looks like he is off. He does not want to sit around, he wants to work so Luckily I have some carpentry work on a few of my jobs that will keep him busy...

we got cut to 3 days a week until further notice. thank God I still have a couple rolls of toilet paper left LOL
