I understand that the steel wheels are painted the vehicle body color, in most cases. My question is about the inside rim paint color. I had heard that the wheel insides are painted black and outsides the body color. Is that correct? Or it the whole rim painted the same color? Also is the paint a more satin look, instead of gloss?

Wheels all start out black, more of a semigloss. Then any body color is painted on outside only. Often times I find wheels with only a blue-gray prime coat on backside. In late 71, all wheels were black, with no body color match

All black in 71? I've seen many body color in 71.....Unless you mean back of the wheel only then I fully understand.

Rims from ‘68-‘70 was what my inquiry was about, so thank you for clarifying those years.

He did say "late" 71. Maybe he meant last part of 1971 for 1972 production?

33Imp, thanks for the observation on "late". I dont know an exact date on that, so the previous note of painted wheels on a 71 wasnt a point of contention to highlight to me. Point is there was a change in practice at Ma Mopar.

I wasn't really trying to stir anything up. Just trying to learn for myself. Always absorbing info like a sponge over here. To tell ya the truth I didn't even see the late in there thought it just said 71. That's what happens when ya are starting work at 5am from the Corona virus bullshit and you are half asleep. Haha!
