Ok. So I have 69 Coronet. 318 car. From what I can tell the 69 318 should be red. My engine is hemi orange. And from what I can tell the hemi orange was only on the police engines in 69. Casting number I can see is 2636030 318-5. Trying to determine if this is the engine from this car or was it replaced at some point. Anyone able to help me.

thanks

318 V8 - LA - Police only Police engine H-Orange Mopar Paint P4349216

But then again, paint is paint. Double check the numbers on your engine and go from there.

the only thing I can find is 2636030.

mine is hemi orange though. So I don’t know.
I deleted my post. I see the 318's weren't listed and the other small blocks in 70 were orange. That is wrong, my 70 318 is blue. try not to post incorrect information.

It's definitely a 69 engine.
What's the VIN on the car?

I will have to get VIN in the morning. But it’s a 69 coronet 500 convertible.
Why do you say it’s definitely a 69’ engine? (I’m trying to learn the mopar scene)

Because I think the 69, 318's were casting numbers ~250XXXX through ~270XXXX, or so.
Poke around on the web.

ok thanks. I was just asking because this is my first mopar and I’m trying to learn. We thought this was an all original matching car. But with the color of engine I’m not sure.
did mopar stamp vin on block ( if so where would that be

I have a '69 Coronet and the engine is blue/turquoise. I think it is a late build. I don't think it's a replacement engine.
I just thought it was near the change to blue engines. They may have run out of red since after '69 no more red engines. Who knows?
I like blue better, so no complaints from me.

There should be a tag riveted to the top of the dash on the driver side.

I know where the vin plate is. I’m curios if they stamped the vin on block anywhere that I can see if it original engine

Do a VIN search and see what the car originally came with.
If it was the police engine I would think it would show in the VIN.
Is the fender tag still on the car?

There is a date code on the block. It's under the left side cylinder head. Mine was dated around the the time the dar was made so I assume it is the original engine.
If it was a police engine it would have a windage tray?

If it is a 1969 or newer engine,at least the last eight digits of the VIN will be stamped on a pad on the passenger side of the block just above the oil pan rail.
