3 pinion will hold up to 900 HP. Been doing it for years. When you make the swap use the front planet that came with the shaft you are using. It'll be fine.

Doug & I have a little difference opinion, but I've never had 900 HP. The 4 pinion was Mopar's idea for their high HP motors(Hemi & HP 440) or heavy duty applications. If you have a 4 pinion set, use it. I've always used 4 pinion both front & rear, because I've had them. I would trust Doug's opinion, if he's had stock 3 pinions hold up to 900 HP though. 727's are real tough.

In the case of the front planetary, the weak point is the splines, not the pinion count. 99% of the time the splines will strip out long before a pinion failure.
