standard steering wheel or Tough wheel

My parent's new '71 Road Runner had a tuff wheel which I drove to school for a couple of years. So I put a tuff wheel on my '72 Satellite Sebring Plus and like it (comfort and nostalgia for me). The padding was starting to deteriorate on the used factory tuff wheel I purchased, so I did have to wrap it.

On the other hand, I drove our '65 Barracuda Formula S with power steering and stock skinny steering wheel down here to Mexico from California (about 1,500 miles). The joints in my fingers were aching so bad it was a miserable experience. My joints had never hurt before the trip (and have not hurt since the trip). That was a surprise reaction for me and not a pleasant one. Still not sure what was behind it. Never a problem like that in the longer road trips I have taken with the tuff wheel equipped Satellite.

I had a tuff wheel out of a Cordoba or something that was originally red and I dyed it burnt ember to match my interior. I sold that and replaced it with this:

You cant find them cheaper than that, however its worth noting that Grant makes a wheel that looks like a Tuff wheel (called the Challenger...), but the spokes are much thinner than the originals. I have one in my 52 Dodge PU and they look the part but are not the same.
