well, this day is finally here, Flash, my best friend and little buddy is to the point, I have to put him down, been with me 11 years now. the worst thing is no vets will put him down ( we moved from fl to t about 11 months ago ) they wont take him ( would be a new patient ) due to Covid 19 fears, have told me I have to do it myself.. not sure i can do this. gave me 2 options, 1 the old fashioned way,or 2 mix tylenal pm and benadryl in his food and he will go to sleep, but he wont eat..
this is way harder than I expected it to be, who would have thought vets would abandon animals in need over the covid 19 thing. i have called the only mobile vet, and he said would be 2 weeks before he could come out

Man I am so sorry. Having to put a pet down is hard.
Thoughts and prayers are with you

that is crazy, I can't believe they won't help you and the animal. My dog is 12 and just had to be put on insulin and the appetite is not there especially in the morning, and she is on heart meds too for a leaky valve. I have tried every kind of food there is, the only thing she will eat first thing is hamburger so I have to fry a hamburger every morning until I get her blood sugar regulated. I understand how frustrating and painful it can be wanting to help your animal. Is there any animal emergency hospital near you that might assist?

Sorry to hear about Flash. I hope things get better soon. Do you have a good friend who can just drive away with him and help you out?

I wish, since we moved her just before the covid thing, have not had a chance to meet any one and make friends

God Bless you and your little buddy

We put down our 15 year old Sadie girl Siberian Husky Saturday at the vet in WI

Our vet had zero issues bringing her in , our third Siberian we had to put down over the years

We where in the room for everything and then the vet let us stay and mourn for literally 15/20 minutes by ourselves

COVID was never mentioned

She will bee cremated also

This was the toughest , maybe it’s just my old age - Been crying literally the last few days like a two year old

He gave her a sedative shot first which was really nice

Our Niko male Siberian is so damn depressed right now , they know

Saying prayers for you right now , don’t wish this on anyone

Sure is a hard thing, fortunately we were able to be in the room with the vet.
We had to put Tyson to sleep in Tucson while on vacation in 2011. They mailed his ashes to us, never charged for shipping and sent a nice card.
We feel for you.

i lost my Stoogie about 4 years ago now
he had the cancer and was getting thin fast.
one morning,he barely made it out the steps and then he went and laid out in the sun, facing it.
both myself and him were light sensitive.
i knew..right then...called the vet.
same vet i had gotten the dog from ten years before.
she in turn called another vet from 3 towns over who came to My House that day.
my heartfelt thanks to this day for those vets.
i still miss Stoogie to this day,and hope hes chasing rabbits around in heaven.

i finally begged my way into a vet at 330 today, but i'm not allow to go in with him, they said they will give a shot to relax him him and and bring back out to me, he will fall asleep then they will take him back in for final shot and bring back so we can bring him home, man this sucks, he doesnt like strangers

This is way more messed up then it should! I think 11 months is way past the quarantine window for the dam bug. I would seriously be looking into laws by the Veterinarian's society and get this chowder heads license taken away. Call the County animal abuse hotline and report it and tell them your situation and see if they can help. This is clearly a animal abuse excuse from the Vet, you shouldn't have to be in the position you're in! I would have walked out without the dog there and told them to deal with it!

What are their excuses for not taking him, the same as the other chowder head? Good Luck

The same chowder head or someone else? Stay strong!

Well that's a tough one but better then the other way!
My wife works at a vet office right now is very hard with Kung flu lots of people can't be with there pets at this time !
One vet here (at her office) is going outside to do it so the people can be with there pets

It's definitely tough my first dog (charger ) just hit 14 yrs old red nose Pit he is falling apart left and right I fear the time is coming very soon

That does suck, man.

You got friends, here.

Loosing our 4-legged friends suck plain and simple. I feel for you. I had to put down my Dixie girl almost 10 years ago. Border Collie that was too smart for her own good. She spoiled us for all other dogs since. Never be another Dixie. I cried for days.

So sorry to hear about Flash. Losing a furry friend is always hard and it sounds like the vets in your new area are making this even more difficult for you. Our best experience out of the 4 we've lost through the years was with our current vet. He does mostly farm animals so he makes "barn" calls and will do cats/dogs as well. When we had to put our Daisy down, they came to the house to do it and even sat on the floor with her and cried with us. Personally, I like the closure of being there with them until the end. Hope you find a compassionate vet to help you with this difficult task.

Hardest thing I've ever done. Dang dogs just don't live long enough, god only lets us enjoy them for a short time and then he want's them back... Have strength brother this is one of those parts of life that sucks balls...

My sympathies to you! Been through the loss of pets more times than I care to count with the family; but your situation is outrageous. Speaking of getting help from vets, recently my daughter who lives in FL was visiting and one of her two pooches found an old block of mouse poison in my garage. Dammit I thought I had done an ample job of dog-proofing the house. So we started calling all over the place for a vet to take a look at her without luck. Get this: An animal hospital I called first asked me if we've been a prior client, I said yes and she found our file quickly...then she said she had to put me on hold for a minute, now it was already some 20 minutes since the dog ate a small chunk of the block as my daughter was calling other places. Then...get this...the lady says "I'm sorry, we're all booked up on emergencies, we're unable to help you."

Huh? Who da **** get's 'booked up' on emergencies? It was 9AM. What? They got a schedule of pre-planned emergencies? Later I lit into the facility admin telling them I wouldn't take an injured snail there for treatment and their line about being booked up...on...emergencies sounds like a great line for a comedy skit. I suggested they drum up a better line.
Now what you're saying is just horrifically pathetic and so sorry to hear this. Covid excuse? They friggin wear a mask and disinfect like they always do for any infectious disease risks...and I thought our experience was bad...

how does booked up and an emergency even get uttered in the same sentence!!
the term > booked up is for Appts,Not emergencies.
that would have pissed me off too.

That's terrible but I'm glad at least one Vet came to there senses! Putting down a pet is a tough gig. The last time I had my Veterinarian make a farm call to my place. She came out to the house and put my chocolate lab Ellie down in the livingroom on her favorite pillow. I cried like a baby, but it was very peaceful. Best of luck my friend, it's the compassionate thing to do. 440'
