WTH is happening to my bumpers

Try 0000 steel wool and some chrome polish. Looks like some kind of build up. Clay bar is for clear coat, never thought of trying it on chrome but would put image it would do anything.

I agree with this, and I use them in tandem with each other. After years of neglect and sitting around untended, I used chrome polish and steel wool to clean these bumpers. This is the first attempt. Another attempt is forthcoming this winter.

sure that's the same bumper?? lol
that's impressive!

Thanks to all the advice you guys gave me about my bumpers. I rummaged around my cleaning stuff and found this metal polish I didn't know I had. Tried it and bumpers now look new again. Thanks again guys.

I too say steel wool, use what ever grit needed and go finer. I use soapy water as a lubricant. Then a polish. This is a ‘70 Roadrunner bumper.

Yep, same bumper. Head out to the garage, put some Rush Farewell to Kings on, a smooth beverage of your choice and anything else to ease your mind, and head into the tranquil place of hand polishing. It’s a great place to be!

I found a large tube of "Flitz" at a thrift store.

I seem to remember that being the rage a few years ago.

My bumpers could use some help.

Anyone have a good experience with Flitz?

Good to hear your bumpers cleaned up! Kinda looked like oxidation of an acid based cleaner (like some of those chrome wheel cleaners).

I've seen soap residue look like that too, but usually that would come right off.

For chrome I use glass stove top polish and 0000 steel wool, really works good

I like the white diamond stuff, I use on all my bright stuff
