Considering stroking the 440, with the trick flow 240 heads, mild to moderate hydraulic roller cam, 10-10.5 CR and a EFI set up. Will go through a 727 with a gear vendors behind it. Looking for solid torque monster that I can spin to 6500 ish. Car will mostly be a cruiser/grand touring type car, but I want it to have some bite. My frame of reference is my GT500, which is 850 whp on her street tune. I don't need or expect the 512 to perform like that, but I do want it to have some serious grunt when I get on it. Hoping for something in the 600's/600's range. Just curious if anyone else has gone down this path? I like the thought of an EFI/computer controlled ignition with a dual synch distributor. I looked through many pages of 512 stroker threads, but didn't see a comparable build. Thanks in advance.

What makes a 512 different than any other efi conversion ?!?!? Keep in mind, the EFI adds ZERO "performance" gain. What it adds is improved cold start, self tuning, driveability, etc. - but it won't add a single ounce of power.

Completely understood and agreed. I was more looking for "I tried X brand and it was awesome/sucked" As a couple examples, I have read some people have issues with FI tech, Tim Banning uses FAST on his HEMI EFI packages. I know every build is different, but there is a LOT of experience on these boards.

Lately people seem to be leaning towards the Holley Sniper unit. I personally bought a used FAST 2.0 unit because a) it will support more HP than the Sniper and b) I couldn't resist at the price I paid. I'm still a year away from using it so can't comment on any other aspects.

Yeah I saw they claimed 1200 HP on the FAST. I also like the fact that Tim uses that set-up on his EFI hemi's. I appreciate the response man!

Not all the FAST are 1200 HP ... only the 2.0

I am a computer nerd by trade, I automatically go to the 2.X revision by force of habit ;)

My 540 is set up for the FAST 2.0 and was broke in on a dyno. I was told it should idle under 950 RPM and the engine has 12:1 CR and lift near .700". No reports otherwise.

The 505 (think 512 440 with only a 0.030" overbore) in the Coronet has what was originally the Edelbrock XT Port EFI, but the controller and narrowband O2 were not that good, so it is being changed to use the FAST 2.0 Controller. The sequential port injection can get expensive and more complicated than the TBI setups like the Sniper and FiTech which are not much more expensive than a carb, and easier to wire.

On my 505 I use the FiTech with a fuel tank from Tanks Inc. Works great for me. A/F ratio always perfect. Starting is like a new car.
Wiring is simple. The returnline was the most work.

Speaking of the fitech, i have the 1200PA on the '71 Charger and I really like it. Intake is the Indy 400-2 (4150 flange) single plane intake. Much improved driveability and cold starts.
I put that on before Holley had the Sniper on the market. I wish FiTech had offered a higher flow throttle body, like Holley does with the Sniper 4500.

Mike,
I am going to send you a PM since you have a 540 cu in build. That's what I've planned, and I want to run a few things by you please.

it won't add a single ounce of power.
Not being argumentative, but there may be a power improvement via the interplay of the EFI and timing, making a "best case scenario tune" more likely.
At least that is what I would think.

I put dual quad snipers on my 528” Hemi this spring. It always starts and I don’t smell like exhaust after a drive. I’d never go back to a carb and points. This is the 4th car I’ve converted to EFI. 2 LS swaps, one Hamilton EFI setup and then the sniper setup.

I have a 505” that dynoed at 636hp/615lbft with a carb. I run the Holley super sniper fuel injection now and it’s been great. There’s guys who can remote tune them too and really get em dialed in

Thanks for the info!

What, no pics?
Just my ho-hum 383. Ran 2 different sets of carbs prior. Love the sound the tbs make when I get into it.
Going timing control, just need to install.

Could you pm me more details on your setup please ? I’m putting an XT on my 440 with probably a Holley HP ECU, I’m running FAST XFI SPORTSMAN on my stroked smallblock, via a 2.0 TBI, I like fast but they just aren’t keeping up with tech

Well now we're talking. I was gonna go big but I think im gonna go with a 451 with fuel injection and a procharger and trick flow heads. I'm also planning 727 gear vendors

I have a low deck 512 in my Duster with a full Holley Dominator EFI system. The 496 in my Coronet has a Sniper on it. You shouldn't have any trouble making 600/600 as long you pick the right cam. A ported intake manifold will help. Port injection gives you some more flexibility with the system but if you're new to EFI then the Sniper isn't a bad way to get your feet wet.
