This little incident came out of nowhere. The ten-year-old female poodle stays indoors with me (goes outside for necessities) and the five-year-old female Doberman stays outdoors (but I let her inside for a couple of hours during the hot Summer afternoons).

Today when I let the Doberman come inside as usual:

The poodle growled/snarled, jumped up in the Doberman's face, and snapped at her. The Doberman did not react to the unprovoked attack. I told them both to go to bed and they went and laid down obediently in their corners.

The photo is from 2019 when the poodle decided to nap buddy-buddy with the Doberman outside. The Doberman weighs about fives times as much as the poodle.

Wimmin are like that from time to time. Wait 'till the Dob turns on you and won't let you in your own door, hope you carry.

Little dog syndrome...

I've had all kinds of dogs
some just have a bad day too
or food or a toy or a certain person or territory was involved
sometimes one 'just snaps' too

good it was the little dog & not the Dobby
it could have been ugly

From post #2 "Wait 'till the Dob turns on you ..."

I'm not too worried about Camelia the Doberman. Don't tell anyone our little secret: photo is her reaction to strangers (sits about twenty-feet back and wants to shake hands).

Sorry, but keep telling yourself that. I've had 4 friends in the past 40 years, ,with Dobs, that had to shoot them in their own doorway so that they could get in the house to get to their kids.

Well, there has been one change the last couple of days. I brought in a large recliner chair and sat it near the front door. Maybe the poodle could not see what dog was coming inside today and was on the defensive.

When I was a youngster, a neighborhood lady had a poodle named "Gigi" that had a shrill bark and would hardly ever shut-up. That turned me off to poodles at the time.

When my spouse adopted our poodle "Corazon" and I trained her to shake hands in all of ten minutes, I had a change of heart.

LOL.. now I'm getting the dreaded red X... oh well. I helped bury 4 of the dogs..

As I understand it, the Doberman breed has become more docile over the past fifty years. I suspect with the Pit Bull, it's been the opposite transformation.

Keep an eye on the Doberman, maybe she is getting sick, and the little one can smell it. Seen it happen with my dogs.

Maybe one dog is mad about the fence. Do you have Liberals in Mexico?

I wish I had an answer for you. I think I would strike it up to the poodle being surprised. I would shake your hand Camelia, well I think it has to be a fist bump (COVID)
I do know some small dogs get moody in old age, hell I'm getting moody as I age
I hope the relationship heals

I have a in law that his wife got 2 dobermans. He came home one evening and they turned on him. He shot one, but the other one got him pretty good before he managed to kill it too. And they say that is what the divorce was about.

These scary stories lack a little context. I just remembered, before I was born (circa 1950), Mom had a Doberman named "Fritz". Must be a polaroid photo around here somewhere of my "predecessor".

My Grand mother had a Dobi. It turned on her as well. It was a very deceiving dog. Dont like them at all.

Well, this thread was meant to point out the angry moment of a normally docile French poodle, so enough of the criticism of another intelligent, loving breed of dog (if you don't mind). Thank you.

Be very wary of that Doberman...they have a brain slightly smaller than a walnut. They flip just like a light switch.
