I’m swapping in a floor shift steering column collar on my column shift car and going to rebuild the entire column. At the bottom, there is the shift tube (that I’m removing) and it has the wire clip type plastic bushing. I want to add the floor shift bearing that bolts in with 2 or 3 bolts. My column doesn’t have the bolt holes. Any reason I can’t just drill new ones?

Your bits are too dull? I don't see why why that would not be a workable solution. You may be able to shorten the housing tube at the same time for more exhaust clearance.

Thanks. So I guess that type of bushing would fit i.e. all column tubes are the same diameter regardless of floor or column shift?

I can't answer that but, it would be easy to turn one on a lathe out of plastic.
