Here is what they did and why it's new.

In a major breakthrough, a joint team of researchers from Caltech, the Department of Energy’s Fermilab, AT&T, Harvard University, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, and the University of Calgary announced that they managed to teleport qubits of photons across approximately 27 miles (43.4523 kilometers) of fiber-optic cable, per Fermilab.

Similar projects had been done in the past; however, this one distinguishes itself from the others due to it being the first to beam quantum information across such a great distance.

Hyperbole... First, teleportation means transferring a solid, something that is made up of matter, from point A to point B. It does not mean going from time A to time B, that is time travel (moving thru the space & time continuum). That said, all that they did was to transmit light (data) thru a fiber optic cable like we already do today, ever hear of FIOS?! Light travels along the grain of the fiberglass like a tunnel and shows with equal brightness at the other end.

Quantum networks facilitate the transmission of information in the form of quantum bits, also called qubits, between physically separated quantum processors. A quantum processor is a small quantum computer being able to perform quantum logic gates on a certain number of qubits. Quantum networks work in a similar way to classical networks. The main difference is that quantum networking, like quantum computing, is better at solving certain problems, such as modeling quantum systems.

The article seems more like an "Onion" article to me. What I think is more to the point is the bandwidth of the transmission distance. More information can be sent and received at greater distances without the possible need of repeaters (amplifiers).

This thread isn't about Time Travel but, if it were, I would want to go back to 13,000BC in Turkey to see just who built the Temple complex at Gobeckli Tepe, and why. Might get lucky and actually see the comet strike that ended the Ice Age and became the genesis for the Noah's Flood Story. After satisfying myself on those scores I would travel to the Giza Plateau to see if the Pyramids are already there. AND, if locals have any clue who built them and why. Curious minds want to know.

Something more valuable would be a device to LOOK back through this timeline...keep turning it backwards and watch history in reverse for any given location. Like Giza. Keep looking in reverse until it shows them being constructed and look at that date. I suspect that you would have to go back to before 46,650BC to see that...
