Christmas Day 2020 - lunch or dinner menus

VERY traditional Brit Christmas dinner. About 1.00pm,Turkey (goose is also a traditional UK Xmas roast but largely out of fashion....Ill have one if I or my dad shot one....not a shop bought thing...tasteless and fatty), roast potatoes in goose fat....various veg, pigs in blankets, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce. Followed by Christmas pudding and brandy sauce ....I prefer custard though. All washed down with something alcoholic. Usually get finished just in time for the Queen speech at 3! Try to recover in time for Turkey sandwiches in the evening. Drinking from pretty much when we get up until we go to bed!!!.....but at a sensible pace....otherwise I will fall asleep.....i dont drink much usually....so I take it easy. Bucks fizz at breakfast (Buck is my Surname....so what else!), wine at lunch....beer for the rest of the day. The only downside....Im the better cook...so I do 90% of the cooking....as the rest of the year!!! I really don't mind though!...she has "other talents"!
Sounds pretty much like our Christmas dinners in the UK going back a few years. All except for the goose....we always had turkey. And after dinner, there were at least 4 boxes of chocolates circulating the room, until the boxes were empty. Best ones were with my wife's Uncle & Aunt in Towcester (across the field from Silverstone) where we would all eat until we couldn't walk...then drink till we couldn't stand up. Good times.
Playing drunk Monopoly and Pictionary with family is always good fun.

Crunchy Nut cornflakes for breakfast, followed by toast & marmalade. Eating is easier in winter time. It's not even 8:00am here now, and the temp is a cool 18deg C. :D

Everyone in my family brings their usual dish. Whether it be ham, potato salad, green bean casserole, etc. However, I am not a cook. So, a few years ago I learned how to make pineapple upside-down cake, which turns out to be fairly easy. That's what I will be bringing to Mom's for Christmas lunch.

Here's last year's cake. I'm making one now.

Not Christmas day yet, it's still only Christmas Eve here :poke:

I'm going to cook a small ham, sweet potatoes,
green bean & fried onions casserole
fruit salad, drop biscuits or rolls maybe
(store-bought, my crust sucks) apple pie for dessert
probably do appetizers like nachos & chips
(store-bought) Christmasy cookies during the day,
with hot apple cider/cinnamon
(can't do booze with an alky in the house)

today we are having our traditional Christmas eve Pasta,
linguini & a sweet red sauce/gravy, sausage lots of garlic, onions,
sweet peppers, my sweet cornbread
we used to do Crab feast & pasta all the time,
just not worth it for only 2 people

no family coming up this year,
everyone is staying put pretty much,
doing their own thing with immediate family
just me & Dad, my cousin Stan may come down too

cost a fortune in shipping stuff this year
freaken' Chinese Wuhan flu BS

It's Merry Christmas here...

still about 7 hours & 50 min.'s
till the 'fat bastage' come down our woodstove pipe

No pics here, yet. Tonight is finger food. Meat, cheese and crackers. Crab dip. Veggies and dip. Etc. Tomorrow is PORK roast! I LOVE pork roast.

Turkey, not so much. We decided to change it up this year and it should be great.

Dessert was just as bountiful.....pavlova as seen above, traditional Christmas fruit pudding & brandy hard sauce, trifle, jelly, fruit mince tarts.
Phew.....I actually stopped and couldn't eat any more.

Very impressive Kiwi, you know how to do it right.

We had a rolled rib roast, Yorkshire pudding (note the rise my wife got out of the dish), carrots stored in my root cellar, fruit salad, mashed red skin taters, apple pie and pumpkin trifle for dessert! I might be full.

Dang....that Yorkshire has some great height. That has to be one of the most difficult items to cook IMHO.....my mother-in-law can do them nice, but not many others I know are any good at them. My wife buys pre-made ....less mess, and a guaranteed good looking result on the plate. Dinner looks great Mike.

That’s how we do it. Finger foods last night, standing rib etc. today.

Easy and simple. Ham and mashed potatoes , coconut cream pie for dessert, with coffee,Bailey's and whipped cream. All i want or need.

I didn’t take and pics, too darn busy eating the stuff. We’ve toned it down over the years to just a few staples.. sweet and sour meatballs (those are homemade not bagged ones) a potato type casserole the wife makes and usually some snacky foods during the course of the day. Pretty simple but very tasty, with leftovers!
