Advise needed on 69 Charger rear body panel assembly

Thanks Don!
Sorry to be a pain but could I get some more dimensions?
I need from the trunk floor, to the top edge of the tail panel, maybe at left corner right corner and in the middle.

Well I checked my filler panel and guess what. It is short by about a 1/4 of an inch :BangHead:
I guess that helps to explain my problem and will help fixing my problem going forward.

Can I get dimensions to weld in the jack brackets?

ALSO does anyone have suggestions on where or how to position the the deck lid filler panel supports? This is the support that is welded to the inner wheel house and deck filler.

Glad to see the length of the filler panel was your issue. AMD needs to really let people know about this when they buy one.

For the filler panel support is this what you are talking about?

Yes sir that is it.
From what I can tell It doesn't seem to make a lot of difference where it is mounted to the inner wheelhouses, (as I already had the whole back of the car assembled with the trunk lid on). I moved the mounting position trying to get the gaps to change and it really didn't seem to matter

Ok. I think I just moved it around till it felt right on the wheel well. It's like it should just fall into place I think. I used the old well inner half's so the holes from the weld cutter aligned as well.

Thats what I thought, it has to align on the end of the filler panel and inside or under the gutter. I think it self locates itself. And if its off a little the trunk hinges seem to have a lot of adjustment

SO I have been working the back panels together and thought I would give an update.

After discovering the deck filler panel is about 1/4 short (left to right) (Thanks SGTPaul!)
I made up some shims out of 16 gauge (.06) that I will double to get the approx 1/8 per side that my deck filler panel is off.

The plan is to put it all back together with the shims and hopefully that will help the gaps along the side of the trunk lid. If that proves out then I will weld those shims to the sides of the deck filler panel.

To make a really long story shorter, I got everything back together and found that shimming the sides of the deck filler panel out seemed to help the gaps at the top half of the trunk lid, But just like before, the gap on the passenger side at the back of the car, right at the quarter extension, is tight while the driver side is a bit much.

At this point I am not sure what I will do, any ideas?
Would adding a washer on the hinge stud shift it over?

Geezuz... KUDO's to you guys for your patience, craftmanship, and commitment.

I feel very lucky that mine is a well maintained survivor that never rusted or needed anything except Oil Changes/normal maintenance.... and that said, if there are any 'measurements' you believe may be helpful off mine ? just pm and I'll do my best.

Thank you, I will keep you in mind if I need any pics or dimensions

So I added a washer on the passenger side hinge stud and that seemed to help.
I now have approx 1/8 gaps on both sides.
I want to increase this to 3/16 but not sure how to spread the quarters out?

I don't really want to slice the both quarters to get the gaps right.
I may have to start over and reassemble?
Any thoughts?

Don you might have the hinge point for the deck lid not at the same point front to back for both hinges. That could give you the angled gap. Give me a call and maybe we can talk it thru. I don't have your number. PM me if you also lost mine.

Still looking for thoughts on why a washer at the hinge fixes my problem.
I can spread the quarters out a bit BUT I really dont want to leave that washer up there

Maybe I need to bend the hinge (that bolts to the deck lid) in the opposite direction I want the deck lid to go?
Maybe that would push it the way I want it to go? Not sure how I would bend it?

Thoughts?
