Good idea. Thanks Threewood, I just ordered one. Do you separately ground the housing? I’ve always done that on my mechanical voltage regulators just to be sure.

I typically do the same but I have concluded That the voltage regulator is the most likely culprit so thought I’d try the electronic version. I hope it works. I hate wiring problems !Honestly I've been just running whatever the parts store has in stock and fortunately have had no issues at all.
Good news all, my electronic voltage regulator arrive, put it in today and I completely solved my fluctuating ammeter and flickering headlights! The electronic regulator replaced my second “new“ mechanical regulator which was a disaster from the factory, it’s points burnt and locked in the charge position frying the main wire from the alternator to the ammeter. Replace the wire, installed the electronic regulator and all is good. Along the way I disconnected and cleaned all of the firewall connectors I’m I’m ready to go. Thank you so much for your help!I use a bolt with the teeth on back to dig in but a separate ground is a good idea.
