what is needed,i know driveshaft will need to be shortened.car is 73ssp with 318 getting swapped out for a408 stroker
 
Personally I'd run the 904. They can be built plenty tough for a built 408 and take less power. Shorter Driveshaft and a bigger transmission yoke is needed for 727. If its a console make sure the tailshaft on the 727 has the mount for the pivot rod coming down from the shifter.

Thanks thats what wanted to but having problems locating a flexplate forvthe 904.ordersed one from summit in December and still haven't got it. It does have the console.

You do have some options. You could have the 408 internally balanced so it can run a 318 converter or get a new converter built w the proper balancing your looking for. The weighted flexplate isn't real cheap, putting that money towards a performance converter is sometimes a very large improvement and better plan. It shouldn't be a big deal to put a balancing weight on 904 converter for a externally balanced 360/408 either, we have done one that way. If the pressures are cranked up on a 904 guys have run run 1000hp+. We ran close to 600 ft/lb through one. It will need to be fresh, but so will a 727.
 
With a 904, you could change out to the low gear set from a later unit too for extra punch at launch. Have you checked with Mancini, Jegs, Bob Mazzolini or some others for the flex plate?

will a stock flexplaye from a 360 work.was planning on using a hughes converter

It should work fine. I would think the stroker crank is a 6 bolt crank. Aftermarket converter may have a bigger bolts where it bolts on. You may have to drill the holes out to 7/16. Depends on the converter. Main concern is make sure your converter is balanced for your engine. If your rotating assembly is externally balanced the converter will need a weight, internally balanced it will not.

Maybe try Hughes engines and Glendora Dodge in Glendora Ca. too. GD always had a big MP booth setup at the Spring/Fall Flings in Van Nuys.
