Hey guys,
I'm looking to find the best and safest way to clean off the rubber from my rear quarters.
Not sure how it gets there, but this time it was quite sticky and well attached. The usual soapy mix took ages to remove most of it, but a reasonable amount will not budge.

I tried some CRC 556, but that just smeared the paint a bit, so I wiped that off.

What do you guy use? And what thoughts for making this easier in future?

I have heard some people use a plastic film....not sure if that is like a temporary and frequently removed film, or if it is like stone-guard for the nose of a car.

Any help or thoughts appreciated.

:xscuseless:

Are you sure it's rubber and not road tar?
Bug & road tar remover, gasoline or kerosene usually work well for me.

I would knock the big stuff off and the try a clay bar. You’d be amazed at what s clay bar will lift off clear coat anyway. Keep it lubed.

If it is actually rubber and not tar, it might help using hot water to help soften/loosen up the rubber to release it. May have to do it a few times to warm up the rubber & panel. I have no experience with this, just spit balling. If road tar, then yes, a solvent would work best. Good Luck

It is definitely rubber.....you can smell it. And it is soft & spongy, and doesn't make your fingers all sticky.

I will try the WD-40 approach....and I assume that spraying the WD-40 on the clean panel area will help stop the adhesion of rubber next time.

The hardest thing to do in my A100 is to lay off the loud pedal....it is just so much fun. And with 'Armstrong steering', there is no real time for gentle cruising around. :D

Are you sure it's rubber and not some of that black substance seen in your avatar GIF? Usually, plain ol' TP will clean that up!!

I won some Turtle wax bug and tar remover at a car show... That **** takes all kinds of stuff off!

WD 40 usually will take rubber and all kinds of adhesives off but when it's dry, it leaves
nothing behind. No protection afterwards. If you want to keep anything from sticking later,
wipe the problem area with a little Dawn dish soap before you spin the tires.
Won't hurt the paint, nothing sticks, and wipes right off. If you just wipe a thin coat on
you won't be able to see it.

I've also heard of truckers down here using Pam on their bumpers, fenders ect during love bug season. Here in Texas and Louisiana they can get so thick they can block the light of a headlight...

If & when you get it clean again, grease that area with Vaseline to make clean up easier next time!:thumbsup:

After you get that crap off , get some mud off from your local dirt track shop or baby oil from the drug store and spray it on it will make it a bunch easer to clean off next time.

+1 for WD-40. Also cleans all the grease off your stainless BBQ grill, stainless appliances w/out streaks. It's hotrodder's equivalent to Windex for Greeks.
