Ok I found another great old B body MOPAR. This car was found in a barn/shelter in North Carolina but it’s history goes all the way back to California & possibly Lions Drag Strip. I hope you guys enjoy the video & if anyone has pictures or information on this car the owner & I would be interested
67 Plymouth GTX barn find with a story

They are still out there !Perfect example of automotive archaeology.

Amazing it still has a C440 engine. Said it wasn't original, but I love the fact.

He thinks that the pipe plug that the oil filter screws onto is a fit for a pulley! Belt driven oil pump!
Guess he's a Chebby Guy. Yeah they're still out there!

You never cease to amaze me with your automotive archeology, Bob. Was Gary along for this one?? lol

No Gary has moved on to sail boats. He has a YouTube channel on a couple of those he’s fixing up. I went down there last summer & he gave me the tour. Pretty interesting

Sail boats?!?! Holy mackerel. I knew he was into boats, but not the ones on the water! lol

The engine date is reported wrong. 17 is the 17th. Day. The month would be spaced over further to the left. In the photo below you can faintly see another stamping under there. when I blow it up I can see something under the paint but cannot read it clearly. Look at your blocks the month and day are spaced apart from each other.

Bob, clean off the pad and see what the month is.

The original paint looks like code M turbine bronze. When he is showing the trunk lid from the side and he points out the original paint you can see the sheet metal number stamped in there. If you look they are all over these cars.

How are you going to stop a car with the chute mounted to a cut up trunk lid? Possibly the lid was cut later, or it wasn’t ever used.

I doubt the doors were acid dipped and then the stock door panels and wing frames installed again with the plastic plugs covering the mounting holes. See second photo below. They will feel much lighter with the stock glass removed like these have.

Clay smith cams is mr horsepower. A good person to contact is Chad Langdon In calif to possibly learn more about this car.

Yep he just finished up a 34 footer & is now on a 42 footer. He seems to like his new hobby. He’s still working on some customer cars. I finally have all mine picked up from his shop.

One rear brake drum! Is that even NHRA approved?

Cool find
NO, doubtful, it more than likely wouldn't have been legal
At a min., any NHRA AHRA IHRA SCTA etc. sanctioned tracks,
for insurance reasons alone

not since I started running anyway
(probably wouldn't hold the car on the converter either
especially the lower stall converters back then
)
in 1975 it wasn't/would NOT have been able to pass tech
parachute or not
I don't ever remember seeing that 'ever'
alleged weight saving or not
no front brakes was/were relatively normal thou...
I started going to races with my stepfather Bob L.
in about 1967
all up & down the west coast, he ran mostly Ca.
we use to have 20+ something racetracks/dragstrips
just in Calif. alone

cool car, could be resurrected & made safe
only takes $$$$

I've never heard of it or seen it. That's either going to leave one long black mark in the shutdown area or spin the car 360*

Yep Turbine Bronze does appear to be the original color. The cut up trunk lid was surprising. Yes my big Azz Fury (BAF)has lexan windows & the doors are much lighter. I’m supposed to go back over there & video some other cool MOPARS so I’ll see if he will let me scrape the pad. Thank you for the contact info on Clay Smith. I’ll pass that along to him.

I’ve seen pics of cars built this way. My understanding was they used a BIG brake drum & a chute. And I’ve had old timers tell me of such. I can imagine it was hard to hold on the line. Might be why it didn’t catch on. Sanctioned track legal. I doubt too, but non sanctioned tracks I’m sure

It would work with a 4 speed it but won’t hold On the line with an automatic.
