Struck out at Napa and Auto Zone - on-line searching doesn’t give me much hope at Advance or O’Reilly. Just trying to get a period correct looking alternator without running funky ground wire to ground a second field, without a big square back, and with around 50 amps so less chance of frying my wiring. I don’t have anything except MSD, am radio and lights/fan. Anyone know where to look to find a reasonably correct alternator?

Try RockAuto looks like they have some.

Autozone has them. I got one there. $65
Duralast Remanufactured Alternator DL7001 dual pulley
Duralast Remanufactured Alternator DL7014 single pulley

Ordered two of this part number - nothing like described for #7014 alternator. Don’t waste your time on them.

Thanks, but I’m convinced it would be very risky to order one of these by mail. They all say this fits your car and is correct but when it shows up it’s a late 70s model square back, double field, 80 or 100 amps. Yeah, I know you can run a dual field alternator by grounding one field but I prefer a correct appearing one.

I got one from Autozone and it was perfect. Sometimes it takes a few times for them to get it right.

On this site, you can probably find one with a proper date code and have it rebuilt locally. A good local shop will likely use quality parts as they don't want to see it come back. The Stores don't care, returns and replacements are usual business for them.

Not worried about date code - just period correct.

thanks

The image for a 55 amp looks correct.

That’s the problem, the images do not match what they are peddling. The parts guy recognized that on the first one that came in and called up another store with one on the shelf under the same part #. He asked the to get it down and see if it matched the image - no big square back, while I listened. Yep, guy says looks just like the image. Went back today to get it after they shipped it over - same damn thing as the first one. Can’t rely on any of those internet and catalog images. They are just parts recyclers - they don’t care as long as it will bolt up. I might get one if we went through a half dozen or so of them but what a pain and expense.

Not sure why they put this in WTB forum. I posted it with hopes of finding a lead on an outfit (a business) that specializes in old alternators, starters, generators, etc for Mopars. Not adverse to buying from a member if they have a good one but was intending to purchase commercially. Otherwise I would have posted in WTB.

If you don't want to buy from a member......
........plumcrazygarage.com......is a Mopar only starter and alternator rebuilder
