You made my day, Ed. Glad that you like it and put it to use. I’m glad and proud to contribute to a great car and a fine southern gentleman. Thanks for being there.
Aww come on now - it's just me and Fred.
I polished up that tag, straightened a couple of little bends...
Got a story about it already, too.
(Story prerequisite - TN has no front tag law; we just have rear tags mandatory).
(Story background #2 - The central business district here is only a couple blocks long, either side
lined with 2-3 story historic old brick store and office fronts close to the little two lane road,
so things sort of echo in there...
and Fred certainly benefits from such a thing, announcing his presence and all.)
Earlier today, the wife and I ran a few errands in the GTX before the storm front
was due to hit and at one point we wound up at the main traffic light on Main Street in town, caught first in line
on a red light. Directly opposite here came the on-duty city cop, who also was first in his line.
I saw him glance down at the front plate on Fred, then look right at me through the windshield with a sort of
"utoh, cop sees something he don't like" look.
I nod at him (he's familiar with both myself and the GTX) and wait to see his reaction...
The light changes and we both start to roll in our respective lanes - when he holds his hand out the window,
sort of signaling for me to stop (and presumably get chewed on some) - so I stop next to him.
"Is that a real tag?" he asks, giving me his best Earnhardt scowl from behind his cool-boy shades.
"Yes sir - over 40 years ago, in a far-away land" I reply...
"Is that....a polar bear?" he drawls.
Well, I involuntarily snickered at that. Couldn't help it. Wife coughs nervously, like she does when she thinks
I'm about to step in something...
Cop pauses for effect, then pulls his shades down and grins at me and says "pretty dang cool" and drives off.
I love small town life...
Anyways, it is not lost on me that Fred has all manner of bits and parts on his Frankenstein'ed carcass
that came from several different FBBO members - not to mention, of course I wouldn't even still
have
Fred if not for the kindness of so many here.
It's very humbling, yet proud stuff for he and I - even if we're most of the time the only ones who know.
again for your kind gift - and the other tag is permanently mounted in the garage, there for
some stranger one day to find and wonder "what the heck?"
