milan dragway bites the dust

That was great news.
Looks like there is a very good possibility that Milan will remain a track.
It's actually refreshing to see local commissioners and councils who actually want to see the track open and succeed.

Thanks
Yes it looks like local government at Milan track supports its continuing use as a drag strip. It generates local employment and tax $$$. Kind of the opposite of our local drag strip at Sparta, Ontario, which has been an active drag strip since 1962. The track is situated about a mile west of the sleepy hamlet of Sparta, which now sees itself as an artsey/fartsey collection of antigue, curio, picture shoppes. This track has always employed local Sparta residents and offered them free entry to regular track events. A few years ago a Sparta citizen's group was formed whose sole purpose was to get the drag strip shut down. Many of the citizens were people who had decided to live in the area since the raceway was built, but now objected to the weekend noise. This group launched a lawsuit against the track. As things progressed, the track operator discovered that the local township government had loaned this group the funds to retain their lawyer. The operator then sued the township and the group and proceeded to court. The judge ultimately declared that while the township's actions were not illegal, they were certainly curious, in that it was trying to curtail the operation of a tax paying business. The drag strip changed hands a few years later, and the new operator discovered that the previous one had quit paying property taxes to the township, once he discovered that it had tried to undermine him. The citizens' group had a partial win. The drag strip was allowed to continue operations with some new noise restrictions, and tax payers within a 3 mile radius of the track got a reduction in their property taxes. The woman who led the group at the time is now the elected mayor of the township. I think the township government would still like to see the track close, so they could restore the affected properties to their original assessment.

Okay, I am in. I will be working on one of the other cars all day. Can jump in the Charger and head out later. Isn't the old Korvette's an Auto Zone or something now?

SW corner of Telegraph and W. Chicago.
Line up on tele

6pkrtse, I believe you are right on it being an Auto Zone, but just a spot to start I guess.
For others here who might want to meet up, it’s the S.W corner of W. Chicago and Telegraph
I’ll get there between 5 and 6
Looking forward to it!

I texted the info out to about 25 other Ferd and Cheby weenies (buddies). To maybe mix it up a bit. Probably to short of notice for this first outing to be huge turnout. So, whoever does show. Don't get disappointed and go home. Stop in and say hey. It can only get better from here....

Half tempted to bring my Challenger out. However, still have the slicks on it from last year and don't want to get busted for slicks and load exhaust first night out there. May have to put the drag radials back on for the street.

Unfortunately your story seems to be the norm.

These *** Hats Yuppie MF'ers move next to a race track... then complain about the noise, traffic and dirt (if it's a dirt track). Then they're screaming that they want the track shut down.

Thanks to 6pkrtse for mentioning this cruise over here. Wish I could make it but my car was there back in the day, perhaps you guys might have seen it/known the owner who I'm trying to find. This is what my car looked like when I 1st bought it 5 years ago.

So far I was able to get back 2 owners ago. He bought the car back in 1984 in Livonia, MI (same city I bought my car from).

I asked if he remembered the guys name he bought it from. He said the guy was a toolmaker, named Jim who worked at one of the Dodge plants. Apparently Jim's son took the car out & ripped out the exhaust system going over some RR tracks. The exhaust system was redone but the pipes went under the rear axle not over it, so he took it to a place called Dave's Exhaust over on Michigan Ave to be redone correctly. Spoke to Dave, no dice.

Paul Hatton did the pinstripes.

Did you buy this car from one of the owners of Archie’s restaurant on Plymouth rd in Livonia?
