Okay I got a 413 I'm installing in my '63 D100, wanting a 4 speed 833, don't need to retain factory crossmember and bell housing with mounts as leaf springs are getting replaced with IFS front suspension. So with that said, what bell housing can/should I use (found a 2892262), 10 1/2" or 11" clutch and I'm guessing a 833 with a input that fits said bell, my current 3 speed has shifter fitted on front of tail shaft (sits in front of bench seat) so shifter mounting area on 833....might be too far back with tail shaft shifter mount. Anything else to look for. Haven't looked at the steel crankshaft for bearing fitment yet. Oh should I run a McLeod hydraulic t/o bearing or has anyone ever done a manual linkage with a truck? Thanks you guys are the best.

I believe the OP is talking about a manual trans.

I can look tonight to give you an idea where the shifter will poke through the floor. I have a 67 D100 with a 727, but right beside it I have a 67 belvedere with an A833. Between the two I can get a dimension off the back of the block to the shifter centerline...and then transfer that to the truck.

What are you planning for the trans crossmember? The D100 I have was converted to a car 727 and the guy who did it created a custom crossmember.

Shifter location is determined by mount and rods.

Truck 833's have a unique mount and rod combo.

The truck mount uses the forward location and raises the shifter up about 2 inches.

...at least in 72-80 trucks.

not the best pic, but here's the factory location in my 1980-

All mounts will be custom mounts/cross member all be made by me. I'll be eliminating the factory cross member that ties the leaf spring/ bell housing mount off as it won't be need any more as I'm going with the Gerst QA1 IFS. A new cross member will be made according to where the new trans mount lands. YY1 thats about where my present 3 speed shifter exits the floor, it's presently a A745 with Hurst Master shifter. What bell housing or does it even matter as long as it's a big block and the center hole fits the trans???

Oh thanks, crossmember will be made by me, I'm eliminating the factory one when I swap out front suspension with IFS.

I took the measurements off a 67 b body shifter location and transferred them to the inside of the truck.

The distance from the face of the bell to the shifter centerline is 21”. Inside the cab that is 1” forward of the back lower side tunnel cover bolt centerline. It is 8.25” back from the centerline of the middle drivers side cover bolt.

The offset from the centerline axis of the transmission to the shifter centerline is 5”. From the top drivers side bolt on the tunnel cover to the shifter centerline is 2.5”.

The pictures should help.

Wow! Thanks for that, let me ask you this, the trans and shifter in your truck (pictured), whats that out of? Is that an A833? Also the shifter in your B Body (which the measurements were from), does it mount to the front of the tail shaft or rear?

The shifter in the truck is a Lokar unit for a 727 auto. It’s deceiving until you notice there isn’t a third pedal.

The A833 shifter I took measurements from is on the front mount of the tailshaft. The same position as all 66-70 b bodies regardless of buckets or bench.

Just from the looks of my measurements it appears my measurements pretty much line up with your current shifter location.

Let me know if you need anything else.
